The fuel tank for the Mini is going to be the largest problem.

It WILL use a Subaru tank, and it WILL use the Mini fuel fill location.  Those are non negotiable hardpoints.

The problem is that the Mini filler neck fed the bottom left of the tank.  The Subaru fed the top rightish area.

To use the unmolested tank and neck, the fill hose will have to go down, back, up, and over.  I have seen a lot of horizontal filler necks but none with a P trap in them.  The filler neck does have a vent tube at its top that will be integrated with the tank.

Did I mention that the Mini neck is plastic? And that cutting the body there is not ideal because one of the cage feet will go there-ish.

Modifying the tank for a fill in the Mini location is an option... BUT the fuel pump is on the right side, and if I add a fill location I cannot see how to add a check valve to prevent sloshout.

Part of me says plan A will be fine because the fill point is still the highest point in the system, and there will be a vent to prevent any kind of siphon effect.

Option C is plan A and integrate a small drain into the lowest point of the neck that would drain into the tank, but that would bypass the check valve in the tank, and I am trying to avoid the Colander Effect of potential leakpoints.

For more reference, this is the Mini setup:

Any reason the Subaru tank couldn't be rotated so the filler neck stays on the driver's side, closer to the MINI filler door? Then the filler tube would hug the left side rocker area.

In reply to DeadSkunk (Warren) :

That would not work because the fuel fill would be even more convoluted, and the pump inlet would be at the front the tank, so acceleration could uncover it.

I am expecting that this device should be able to accelerate rather smartly!

The low spot in the tube holding fuel may make filling a long and tedious process.

How about some thing like this? Maybe not the whole kit but hose. I know you can get just the hose but apparently, Speedway doesn't sell it anymore. May from someone who sells fuel tank relocation kits for older pickups with the tank behind the seat.

Using corregated tubing on my Daytona's fill neck caused enough splash back/turbulence that it would click off the pump if I ever went close to half speed. I would imagine a low spot could do the same and it's infuriating.

Just more pics of what we are dealing with.

Can you come through the body above the frame rail? Or go through the frame rail? My filler neck is fairly horizontal and it does take a while to fill. If you already know where the cage is going to land you can probably route around it.

Isn't the flap at the fill point there (among other reasons) to prevent slosh out? As for the pump being on the other side, just make sure you fill it all the way every time?

Well... if I move the filler to the left side, I will not have a way of adding a check valve. Check valve is in the tank, not the filler neck.

As for filling, the car will live on 100 octane supplied in 5 gallon pails.  So... that would be inconvenient.
