Don't fret about what you have since you won't be using it as a reverse rotation anything. When I upgraded my reverse-rotation 351W in my boat (upgraded to a normal rotation outdrive), I didn't touch the rotating assembly. Cam, distributor, timing chain instead of gears, flip the starter, done. It spent its whole life spinning one way and I just swapped out the parts to make it spin the other way. Worked great.
I spotted a LQ4 engine in a 2500 series pickup that was rear ended pretty badly. Somebody had already removed the front clip, and the engine was just sitting there. It was tempting, so I googled a bit of information on it.
The 454 engine I have already will likely be cheaper in the long run, and is more period correct for the truck if I decide to put in in there. Hell, Chevy put one in the same body from the factory.
The 348/409 was also a Big block with the same bore spacing as your 454, so GM has been doing it for LOOONG Time

Except that it's a completely different engine.
Well, the 348/409 is the Mark I big block, 396/427/454 is a Mark IV. The 454 crankshaft will fit into a 409 (482 stroker), so they share more than just bore spacing. Of course the rest of it is quite different, but not completely different.
81, been doing that swap for some time now, Getting hard to find good blocks but Lamar waldon's son is keeping them alive by producing all aluminum W's
shawn, For some reason they alway's seem to me a flathead with overhead valves, or something but having part of the piston out of the block like that is Strange,
Check out some vid's of Mr. 409 awesome wheelstands As in 1963!
This is just taking up room in the garage. I may just decide to sell it. I'll finish taking it apart and get some really good pictures if I do.
I'm guessing it is going to wind up as a usable block with usable heads, both of which will need a bit of work. What's a fair price to ask for this if it turns out that is the case?
