So for those who followed my Thanksgiving rant the Passat suffered a cataclysmic failure a few weeks ago. I just heard from the dealership and they have news. The timing chain tensioner failed, causing the timing chain to "dissolve". This being an interference motor some valves got bent.
The news is that my extended warrentee company is picking up the costs. Deductable, oil change, new spark plugs, and a "plastic vacuum tube" that cracked means my end of everything (complete tear down of head, new valves, new valve seals/guides, new timing chain and tensioner) will be $300. It should be all put back together in a week or so.
So for all of you who know such things, what else should I have them do while it's all apart and I can get done for the cost of the part?
Alternator is two years old and AC compressor is about one year old. Anything else?
Secondary question what would you think such a car is worth? 2007 Passat luxury edition, VR6 4Motion 103K miles.
