On a semi-related note, why should drag racing and NASCAR have all the cool nicknames: The Snake, Mongoose, Big Daddy, Silver Fox, Cha-Cha, Million Dollar Bill, Smoky, etc.

Nicknames. Handsome harry gant...i think it has a lot to do with the people who watch dragracing and nascar they like nicknames most have them and the sponsors have a lot to do with it

Probably because those are predominantly American forms of motorsport, and we tend to focus on individual achievement and heavy self-promotion.
