It's time for new tires on my 2006 MX-5 Miata.

Would the Grassroots MX-5 project 255/40R17 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires mounted on 17x9.0 ET48 TRMotorsports C3 wheels be overkill for the street?

And are they just bolt on, or are there any modifications required to the body so they will fit the 2006 MX-5?

Thanks for any info and advice!

I think you may need to roll te fenders to get them to clear. I helped a friend roll his to run 245 v710's on a similar offset wheel. I think the wheels woul be great for street, the tire may wear a little faster than you like depending on what kind of driving you do. If you commute on the highway most of the time, I'd get something different. If it's a weekend car, they would be the perfect choice.

Thanks for the info!

It would be nice to know the largest that could be mounted without modifications. Maybe I will contact GRM to see what mods, if any, they needed to fit the tires to their project MX-5.

We run the exact same setup.

Yes, they'll work just fine on the street. You will definitely have to roll/pull the fenders fairly significantly and we still haven't tried to fit the inner fender liners again. You can fit a 235/40-17 of the same tire on the same wheels without modifications, that's about as big as you can go.

Thanks, Keith. Very helpful!

I'm assuming that removing the fender liners involves the plastic moldings and "pulling" the fenders is bending the actual metal. Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct.

I run those tyres on the street under my 318ti.. you will NOT be able to overdrive them on the street.. at least not without stupidity..

Just ordered Enkei GTC01 17x8 wheels and Toyo T1R 235/40/17 tires.

Thanks
