Opinions on the wisdom of such a pursuit?

As long as svc records are there and you can verify everythings been done you should be good

As long as the price is good for the vehicle with that kind of miles, you should be good.

It would have to be real cheap.

I'd do it, but I don't always have the best judgement on that sort of thing.

I wouldnt buy a ford truck older than 2009 right now. The new chassis is just SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the older trucks (this goes for all manufacturer's new chassis) so much more comfortable, needs less attention to keep in the lane on the highway because rack and pinion steering, etc. My dad's 09 f150 is at almost 115k, we bought it at like 98k last year from the dealer it was traded in to, which was also the dealer it was bought from originally and did all the service for the truck. Tows the race car like a champ, the 3 valve 4.6 and the 6 speed tranny is a killer open trailer towing setup, 15mpg cruising at 75mph with the open trailer, will go up any hill without slowing because its got the perfect gear to downshift into for every situation.

But yeah, high mileage newer cars arent a real concern, besides rust.

I'm in the middle of Old Mercedes Fatigue. I bought a phenomenally clean 1988 300SE (W126) last November with the intent of it being my daily, and while a beautiful and magnificent car, it has utterly cleaned my clock with expensive parts breaking. I figure if I put it for sale and get $5000, I can look for something a little newer and less financially ruinous.

My requirements are three pedals, year-round drivability, ability to carry at least three, and a price around $5000 or less.

I've always had a hankerin' for 5-speed, regular cab, short box F-150s, and the newness and price of this one caught my eye.
