Sniping an awesome car on Craigslist is something that I still haven't been quite able to do...but I'm sure it's a really sweet feeling. That looks like an awesome car. Have fun with it.

It wasn't quite that low, but it was the cheapest, running 911 that I've seen in a long time.

The paint is pretty well shot. It looks like the hood and one of the front fenders were repainted a long time ago. There's a little rust on the side of the battery box (possibly related to the repaint) and around the driver's door jamb at the latch. The floors are perfect. The top is good. Passenger's seat is torn.

If I were keeping it, I'd leave the paint as is, replace the throttle cable, refresh the brakes, slap on a set of Cragars(!) and drive the crap out of it. I'd love to have a beater 911.

More photos to come...

Needs a pair of Recaros, a little lowering, a little stiffening and a hot rod engine, with the existing paint.

I already thought about those seats, but shipping would cost more than the car did.

I also discovered that it has had a pop off valve installed in the airbox and it appears to have had the Carrera pressure fed cam chain tensioners installed.

Targas are sometimes used for less-expensive track cars because their starting values are lower. Could be cheap fun if it's too far gone to sell as a nice street car.

Or, I'll be the first to say, how about a donor vehicle for a mid-engine low-cost?

Funny, that. The targa is more the worst of both worlds. It's just as flexy as a cabrio, and not as open.
Have you actually got first hand experience of one? Just wondering...

Yeah, I've driven a few targas in my life. I like them, don't get me wrong, just saying... Now, to be fair, I've never tracked a targa, but my legal speed street driving in one gives me the impression that it's a bit flexible.

Nice find!

This is what I think of when I think Porsche.

Some day, it will be mine.

Fun Fact:

Prior to 1983, Porsche approved the conversion of Targas to Cabriolets. They even sold a kit with parts and instructions.

You can also convert a Targa to a Coupe, but it's a little more involved...

I've been told sending them Greyhound is dirt cheap.

I've had one very bad experience shipping Porsche parts by bus. I was in a panic for about a week when they lost some expensive new old stock parts. Never again.

What happened to the 6 and 7 inch Fuchs from the first picture in the first post?

Those Cookie cutters are horrible. They were the first thing to go when I had my 76 Targa.

Wheels aside, that looks like a fun project. Bought right, it's hard to lose money on a 911.

Wait. So the shipping for seats is more expensive than the car itself? How cheap did you get this for? I thought that my SV650 for 1800 was a steal, but I think that you got the Mother of All Deals.

Okay, not exactly cheaper than the car, but shipping is always a deal breaker when I try to sell seats.
