What I have now are 20X7. There is crap for selection of decent performance tires for a 20" wheel.
What I want is a 9" wide wheel. For that width, the offset I need is 15mm.
What I can't decide is do I want 17", 18", or 19" wheels.
I'm reasonably interested in aesthetics, but more interested in performance. A lot of years ago I read a article that said the best size for performance was 17". But that was in something like Super Chevy or Hot Rod.
What is going to perform better. A smaller wheel with a higher section height, or a larger wheel with a shorter tire?
This is what is on it now.
I would tend to default to 18" these days, myself. I haven't checked tire availability, but that size seems to be pretty standard in terms of performance cars for the past 10-15 years.
A 255/40-17 RE71 is ~$55 cheaper than a 255/35-18 RE71.
I see gold calipers. Will your brakes clear a 17"? Are those an upgraded brake?
In reply to John Welsh :
That is the factory Brembo package. From my research a 17" wheel will clear it. I'll be doing some measuring before I order anything.
I'd go 17" for the cheaper tires and that slight increase in sidewall makes a big difference in comfort.
My personal opinion is that a 17x9 with 275/40/17 is the right answer for almost anything.
Matter of fact, im trying to get a set put on my wagon....

don't be a Bob Costas. life begins at 315.
Go to the wheel and tire section of your CL and put in search word Nissan , Infiniti and Infinity
The 350z/370z wheels and all big Nissan or Infiniti sedan will be the proper bolt, center bore and offset.
I hear that older 5 lug Mustang may fit too.
If buying used, drive the Infinti to the sellers house and bring a floor jack. This will allow you to "try before buy"
Sample: $200
also $200
G35 coupes can fit way more rubber than what fits on a 9" wide wheel. That being said, they are absolute sweethearts when equipped with 245/45r18s on 18x9s.

The first step in selecting a wheel diameter, is selecting a tire (outer) diameter.
My friend had NISMO wheels on his G35 and they were perfect. I think they were 17s or 18s.
Also IIRC you can fit 245s up front and 275s out back without having to cut anything. That's a lot of rubber for a V6.

I forgot ...will this be a kinda daily driver with assorted track excursions thrown in ?? How is your tire kitty($$$$)???
In reply to 759NRNG :
Not a daily. Toy status. Cruising, mountain trips, autocross, and the occasional track day.
Budget is $1000 to $1500 tires and wheels. But cheaper is better.
I don't want to change tires at events so a decent all around tire is required. If I burn up a set every 5k - 10k miles that's fine.
Get a pair of 18x9 RPF1's. Light, proven, affordable, and look great on your car. I know the 17x9 are 16lbs so they can't be a while lot heavier in 18". My buddy is an Enkei dealer I can see what he can do id you're interested. Or find a used set on zilvia. You can also find NISMO LMGT2 and LMGT3 wheels in your budget and specs. And even the LMGT4, sometimes lol.

Do they have less clearance the the Z? 245s seems like a very low limit. I thought STU Zs were running 18x11s with 285s...
In reply to ProDarwin :
G35s don't have a ton of clearance up front. 255s *might* fit up front without rolling but I haven't been able to verify that yet. Out back you'd have to roll the fenders pretty hard to fit 285s.

Would you consider a 'square' setup to prolong tire life (rotating)?
In reply to Driven5 :
if we knew a little more about the tire size. Size and aspect ratio +20. Then we coul come up with some sizes that would work.

It will get a square setup. As much tire as I can fit under the front.
