Has anyone been to the International Rally New York in rhe Catskills that will run the weekend following Labor Day?

Is this the rally Per ran a number of years ago in Liberty, NY?

In reply to captain_napalm: exactly the same area. I am starting to think Black River Stages the following weekend is a better photo op, my reason for going. I hope to be able to shoot for GMS.

I understand GRM has assigned their "regular" photographer to this event so it seems there is some interest among the media.

Roommate is running in Black River in Rally Moto. I have never been to Rally New York, but he usually goes to crew or volunteer every year. What did you want to know about it?

In reply to camaroz1985:

Scott Lear asked me to get good photos at IRNY if I happen to be there. Evan @ H&H has evidently changed his mind about accreditating/assigning me so I guess it is entirely up to me to find the best photo ops @ ny. Any jumps? Weather is giving us lots of rain this week. Any possible splashes?

I no longer will beg to be permitted to photograph an event so that a medium can make lots of money selling my work. I certainly am not referring to Grassroots Motorsports.

I can not understand why event organizers would not want to at least communicate with a phptographer who they know has been assigned/accredited to shoot their event by a significant publication. Smile and welcome free advertising. Maybe this is indicative of why entries are coming in so slowly up there. We are in a recession so welcome those willing to give you money or time. Media should get a VIP bus ticket, lunches and accomodations in Villa Roma. If the entry doesn't reach 60 something is wrong. If VR isn't already booked up for the w/e something is wrong. This is the hospitality business!

What, if any, parts are on gravel? :)

Its all gravel, the spring event is all tarmac.

As for your questions, in the United States of America spectators, photographers, and people who happlessly wander on to stages are all liabilities. As most rally photogs will attest, there is no money in it unless you have contracts from the big teams or are personally hired by the event. I have a lot of rally photog friends, and the only reason they take pictures is because they love rally.

Also, Ivan is an interesting character. Rally New York has a much more... grassroots feel to it than say a CARS or Rally America event. He takes on a very high workload to make the events happen, so some things (which are insignificant in the grand scheme of things in some peoples eyes) are left to sort themselves out.

You want to be really worthwile? Get video cameras, and make an AWESOME video with no boring shots and a good commentator. Not only will people pay for that, video is what will attract peoples attention. My opinion, of course

Edit- And I have no idea what GMS or H&H is, and google turns nothing up. I am quite curious as to who wanted to use your pictures?

I collected images if Scott needs any that his regular photographer does not have. Nice weekend just missed the Champagne spray. More dust than gravel. :)

Everyone has good things to say about Black River Stages.
