Finished up the M30B35 build/swap for my E28 and have a running/driving car again. Woohoo.

My only real question regards where I had to put the ignition coil. Due to the different harness I can’t use the stock location, so I mounted it on the shock tower as high up as I could manage without interference. (The zip tie is just to prevent it from vibrating, it is securely mounted at the lower end)

My fear is that it’s relatively close to my exhaust headers, I don’t want to burn up this coil in the middle of my upcoming 5000 mile road trip.

Am I worrying too much?

It will probably be fine, but if you are worried then make a simple heat shield out of some sheet metal, they make a huge difference

Heat shield.  And carry a spare.

It's probably ok, but you should be able to simply extend the coil wires so it can be put back in the stock location.  Otherwise, a simple heat shield made out of a beer can would be easy to make as well.
