I'm thinking of selling the '04 Subaru Forester XT and buying a TSX. I'm looking at 04-05's, 6 speed. What should I be looking for? Reason for sale, XT is auto and not the greatest mpg. My work commute will be increasing. Thanks.

If you find one, make sure it has a good maintenance history. These like to stretch chains if they go too long on oil changes. They do burn oil, even more oil if you like to row the gears a bit. The Audio units suck balls and are a bitch to deal with as the entire HVAC/Audio face is seperate from the actual unit. At least there's a cheaper replacement option now.
Check for the 2nd gear popping out. Not uncommon on these (and the 6-spd TL's) and being that old will long be out of warranty.
Other than the crappy audio units and the oil burning and hte 2nd gear, they're pretty decent little cars. Not very roomy for their size, but not a bad car.

This... If the car is neglected the chain needs replaced at 100k or so...
Thanks for the info. I've got a few in mind but there is no rush. Might as well use the Subaru AWD until my contract ends at work, then back to supply.
I've always liked these cars and since we just bought an '05 Civic Coupe as a winter beater, I almost forgot how good the Honda manual transmission really is. Like a knife through butter.
Have you driven one? After all the glowing car mag reviews, I was convinced I wanted one. I drove one, and was convinced a 91 integra with a billion miles was not an inferior car.
YMMV. Drive one.
I think they're ridiculously overpriced.

Good to know. I haven't driven one yet, every one that I see is automatic. Might look into a TL as well. Still love our Forester XT, especially now that the snow is starting. Makes winter driving fun.
Personally, the TL felt like twice the car for similar money, but again, it's all personal preference. The TSX was nothing more than a cheaper quality 4-door integra to me.
On a related note, a good friend has a TSX wagon. He's done some suspension and other mods, and he still says it's terribly boring to drive (his previous car was a modded 2002 Maxima) and he's ready to move on after 3 years.
