So, admittedly, I don't see me doing this. It's saturday, and I'm bored, so I figured I'd start a thread.
I've been reading about homebuilt cars. It seems like these cars are usually built on tube frames.
Fiberglass isn't unobtainium. You see bodywork and aero stuff, but never a chassis.
From what Duck Duck Go tells me, Chaparral made some race cars, and Lotus had the Elite.
Is there anything going on with fiberglass monocoques? Is there anything of value down this road?
I don't think anyone is doing anything with the concept that this point.
You can add these to the list though:
The technology jumped from the Chaparral cars in the sixties to the the carbon fiber race technology in the nineties...
Fiberglass is not as rigid as metal structures and is very sensitive to manufacturing process control. (The rigidity problem was solved by the Chapparal boys, probably at a weight penalty.)
Carbon fiber aerospace technology and processing solved the material and process problems.

Veering off topic for a second, if I may. What's the deal with those Mosler street cars? I always see their advertisement in GRM, with cars starting at about $12K. Seems like good value for a unique, low production sports car.
Why not just get this one?
