spyders are great, I havent had or driven an rxanything but the spyder rocks at everything but cargo capacity. Theyre pretty cheap nowadays too. 2zzge is a super easy swap that makes them quite quick and gives you an extra ratio as well (if you swap a c60 at the same time). Basically an $8k elise. Factory precats can break up and eat your motor but thats about it and you didnt want a cat in your header anyway. Bright side of that is that blowed up ones are super cheap donors for 2zzge swaps. Mine is a 1zzfe (with 145k miles) with a c60 six speed and a gt28rs turbo, it makes 214@wheels and weighs just shy of 2000lbs. Average mpg with this setup, while getting wupped mercilessly is around 28mpg combined.

Does the del come on if you bust out the cat?

I dont have a cel and I've got no cats at all, and 440cc injectors, cost me $7 and gets readiness on all monitors.

But if you just put a header on it, it doesnt delete the regular cat, only the close coupled one in the header so no cel issues IIRC.

Never driven an RX, but my good friend's 2zz swapped MR was an awesome little thing. And I could actually fit in it well enough to drive it. This isn't the case with an Elise or an Exige.

Storage space is a drawback. My friend and I got 4 legal box sized boxes of booze into it on a trip to the beer store. It wasn't easy, the guy helping us carry it out didn't think we could, it wasn't a comfortable drive home but we did it.

There's a thread here somewhere on "how long did your RX8 motor last?" I suggest you read it. You don't see threads on "How long dis your 1zz motor last?" because, well, all the ones that the owner kept water and oil in are still running.

Never driven a MR2, but if you want a platform to keep building off of and not have to spend massive amounts of money to get to go really fast the MR2 is for you.

If you want more room, a forgiving chassis, out of the box performance, like to burn fuel/oil and shoot fireballs out of the exhaust while always having a massive smile on your face at all times driving the RX8 is more then worth you're time

And the reliability issues can be an issue with the 04-05 engines, worst case you can buy a full rebuild for an S1 from mazda for around 3k for a short block (with a 1.5k core) or be a man and go for a full Bridgeport massive turbo build and do 9's just because!

Spyder: just barely enough head room, but not with a helmet.

RX8: I have to eat tacos when driving, since my head is turned sideways. Might be fixed with a n aftermarket steering wheel that would allow me to recline the seat more...

The problem, Duke, is you didn't drive it. Sitting in one, you go, uh, well, I dunno. Driving one and it's like: WOW. Unless you are >6'6" or otherwise motion impaired, it can be made to fit.

Got to drive an mrs today. It was an auto but I still got a good feel from it. It reminded me of the aw11 but faster and handled better. It was tons better than a n/a sw20. I still don't care for the way they look but you don't see that from the inside.

Tomorrow I'm going to drive a rx8 its an auto as well but I'll still get a feel for how it handles.

FYI with the auto RX8 it is the smaller 4 port engines and is limited to 7k.

At least it will give you an idea of what to work with.

I wouldn't judge the performance of an RX8 by looking at a slushbox one.

I've driven an MR-2 Spyder and I do like it (although the one I drove was about to lunch its engine) but I'm not sure I could live with the space or rather the lack thereof.

Buy one. Drive it until you're tired of it then buy the other. Drive it until you're tired, then buy something else. Serial monogamy with cars... or buy one and when you get tired of it then buy the other as a mistress. Caution only works well with inanimate objects.
