Is it bad that I would want to do the hood in satin black?

Quick update, I looked the car over a little better today. I need a core support and a radiator in addition to the obvious left headlight. The drivers side outer door handle also needs to be replaced.

I took some pictures that I will add later. I will be out of town (Vegas) until Saturday so there won't really be anything further till next week.

Purchased a radiator and headlight from ebay motors today. $55.60 and $125 shipped respectivly.

$2719.00+$55.60+$125.00 = $2899.60

Stopped by Nissan today and ordered a core support for $162.67 and an outer door handle for $66.36. They will be here tomorrow, I will snap some pictures when I install them on Thursday.

$2899.60+$162.67+$66.36= $3128.63

Also bought a shift knob for the car off of ebay for $21.00.

$3128.63+$21.00 = $3149.63

I think that would seriously devalue it on the resale.

I actually thought about wrapping the hood with carbon fiber vinyl but in the end it wouldn't save a significant amount of money and would turn off some buyers. I am going to have the hood professionally painted by my friend's shop.

Interested to see where this goes. I keep looking at copart but yet to actually follow through with buying one. Thanks for sharing.

I don't doubt that it would be a terrible move for flip/resale purposes. For personal use though, I like the look.

Had to buy an a/c condenser and dryer assembly for $85.60. Also picked up some coolant and some power steering fluid while at the local O'Reillys.

Started taking apart the front end to put on the new parts.

Things went pretty smoothly and it only took about an hour to get everything off. I had to drive across town to get the condenser which ate up another hour. I started to reassemble but stopped when I met up with another forum member to sell a volvo.

I will try to get back over on monday to finish putting it back together.

$3149.63+$85.60+$13.99+$4.99=$3254.21

Is the core support not welded in in those?

Hmm not sure what the market for those is around you, but with the salvage title it's not worth the $5000 you are hoping to get from it in my opinion. But that's just my opinion, I would have parted it out if it were my dime. Good luck though I'll be watching this one.

The core support is a composite material, it is bolted on.

I don't think I will have a problem getting $4950 for it. Most 350z's around here seem to sell for $7000 plus. Three weeks ago I watched a ratty automatic one sell for $5500 at the carmax auction.

This one is a touring, 6-speed with 19 inch wheels. I forsee a Navy guy (two naval bases in Jax) picking it up and not caring about the rebuilt title.

Worked on the z for a couple hours today. Got the front end assembled, it went pretty smooth with no suprises.

I threw the old hood on to keep the rain off. The new hood is getting painted and installed tommorow.

It was a quart low on oil so add another $4.27 to the budget.

$3254.21 + $4.27 = $3258.48

Nope waiting on my friends shop to evac and charge the A/C. Hopefully it should be done tomorrow. I will update once I pick it up.

In reply to pimpm3:

Autozone rents out the vac. pumps and manifold gauge sets for free. From there just juice it up with refrigerant/oil/dye combo from a can. Way faster than waiting on someone else.

Its a bit of a shame its an '03. You could get really good money out of one of the HR engine cars. However, around here you would be able to get 5k out of it. I don't think thats unrealistic.

I've always wanted to do this, but how do you skirt the sales tax or does FL not have sales tax on used vehicles? Or do you have a dealer's license?

I use my friends dealer license, so in effect yes I have a dealer license. A sale tax certificate goes along with that as well, which exempts the car from taxes. The sales taxes are paid on the sales price by the buyer of the car.

I dropped off a Mustang to get its A/C repaired as well and they were working on the 350Z.

Much better!

$3258.48 + $300.00 Painting hood and spoiler. Total $3558.48

Somethings I would rather pay a professional for. My friend owns the shop and is very reasonable price wise. I had him evac and charge the A/C on a CR-V last week and he only charged me $40.00.

I have nine cars that I am in the process of selling right now and I can't do everything on all of them This is a part time job for me after all... I work full time as a Police Officer.
