The Rover can get there, with a turbocharger.

I'd doubt any naturally aspirated power output beyond about 310 from one of those; that's what the Brabham/Repco Formula One engines made. It's unlikely that you'll spin a street engine up to 8500.

Assuming that's the Rover/Buick discussed above, I don't think we forgot about it... the OP mentioned it in the 3rd post in this thread...

Yep, trying to get away from the Rover option on this one, even thou there are a dozen or so in the garage right now. After all, with a sig like tr8todd, is there any question what my favorite engine is? Flagged down a Mustang guy at a gas station yesterday and got a lead on an engine at least. He had a 94 with a 302 and an automatic. Turns out he is installing the exact combo I am looking for. It's a 349 stroker, aluminum heads, and a tremec 3550. I can have the stock driveline that's in the car now for real short money or he'll swap it for the labor on building him a roll cage.

Twin turbo GM, Chevy, Buick v6? Just the regular supercharged ones hit 300hp pretty easily...

That's actually a fair idea. The 3800 is a pretty small motor. However, one Turbo should do it with less weight.

Actually, you can get a G13B to 300hp pretty easy, but 400 would really be pushing it. THose things are litereal featherweights.

Still waiting on that 385lb fully dressed 302

Tell me more about this. Are we talking turbod? Dyno? a 300 hp G13B is going to weigh so little that it's almost worth the hit in hp.

Hrmmm... good thinking Bob, i didn't think about the real featherweights.

Yoter 4efte might be worth looking into as well, but i think it's heavier than G13B. It's a bit stronger, though.

Two turbos hanging off of an all-iron V6 is not going to be light weight.

OK, looks like a fully dressed G13B is 54kg's without trans.... so a fully dressed G13B is 119lbs. Holy crap. Even if you added 100lbs for turbo, cooler pipes, intercooler etc.... you're looking at ~200lbs for 300+hp.

I think we may have a winner winner chicken dinner here.

Nah - that's a silly question. For that weight, the question should be:

What RWD trans will TWO of them bolt to?

Thoughts on the commonly available RWD transmissions out there for this thing? Like the Samuri 2WD unit or some of the other vehicles like it?

What about 2.0l ecotech out of the Solstice/Sky? I remember reading that those came in at like 270lbs from that thread were some guy was swaping one in a c4 Corvette.

Pretty impressive but I think the original poster wanted some TQ and a nice useable power band as well. But for a small lightweight car it should work well.

Well, he used a getrag 265 trans and an E30 rear axle assembly, but I am pretty sure he used an adapter plate made out of billet aluminum.

I'd say the powerband is usable, it's making 250hp at 5000rpms, and builds to 355 at 8100, but is still making over 300hp at 8500rpms. that's a pretty wide spread. Agreed, the torque is abyssmal.... looks like it makes a table top flat "curve" though.... just peaks at ~220ftlbs.

This engine in a Lotus 7 would be amazing.

I just have an issue with people that make things up. A lot.
