Who remembers this build? What an epic challenge car! I remember following the build on their website and being absolutely stunned at the level of detail they built the car to.

I remember that car. They did so much more than we did for the details where most of the points could be taken.
Amazing job.
I painted that car. It is a cool machine, horribly under-developed due to time constraints prior to heading to the Challenge and could have been so much better. Useless as anything other than a play toy I'm astounded by the asking price. The wheels, passenger seat and under hood factory decals were all added by subsequent owners.
He's probably a bit optimistic, but 2002 pricing has been really strong lately. Almost ridiculously so.

You should have seen the thread when the car was sold for $5k shortly after the challenge.

The value of my ex Challenge 2002 just went up. Think I can retire now?
Yeah, 2002 prices have been spiraling upward for while. Time will tell if it's a bubble or if we're moving into 356/early 911 territory. Either way I wish I'd bought that early 72 tii I was offered for $3k ten years ago.

I don’t think I would take less than 10 for my challenge datsun, labor doesn’t count and initially it was bought VERY well.
I guess it's like watching Fox body process jump and having a hard time thinking of them as anything other than 3k Craigslist cars.

The difference is that at least a 2002 is pretty enough that you can get some idea of why the value is flying up

For a few years, I was sitting on a car that I intended to bring ot the challenge, which is now worth (as a base car) about $30k. Times change.
(it was a '67 GT Jr, and not smartly, I thought a built race car was a better path- turns out to have been the same amount of work, but more cost)

If it is, it's because some of the really great creations have not come up for sale. Such as the yellow hot rod from the Nelson family.
