Does anyone know when the new Miata is coming out?
Dunno when, but Mazda has said they want to cut weight across the board (100-250lb in the Miata's case, IIRC) and the Sky-G looks promising.

1609 lbs for a smart.
2200 is about what the Wartburg weighs...
And 1931 for an Elise :)
The original Miata was 2120 or so in just the right trim. In reality, the NA ran around 2200-2300 in stock trim, and the MSM (the heaviest of that platform) topped 2500 lbs. If they do really hit the 2200 lb mark, it's going to be a nice step back to what makes sports cars sports cars instead of GT cars.
Of course I'm a Lotus fan, this little guy lives in my garage. Pretty much all Miata enthusuasts are Lotus enthusiasts, the two are very similar in concept when you think about it.
But I mentioned the Elise because it's usually thought of as being the most skeletal real car on sale.
The Targa Miata runs about 2100 in race weight, which was also dictated by the rules in 2008. It's weatherproof but not exactly luxurious. Actually, at the moment the biggest piece probably weighs about 800 lbs, but when it comes back together I'm estimating around 2300 thanks to the bigger engine and trans.
