After reading through the owners manual on my new FiST. Only read pertinent stuff.
Break in: Take it easy for the first 1000 miles.
No early oil changes. Ford suggests every 7500 miles or 6 months

I ran my cars one year, (8-10K) and never had a problem. Two went 10 yrs. and 70-80k miles.
Always used quality oil and filters. Made sure the oil got to temp. often.
So 7500 miles is normal for me.
To each his own.
100, 500, 1000, 3000, and on the 5s with synthetic mobil1 and good filters. Weven done that on every car since the 90s. Never had an engine failure or wear out. Including a 425k camry.

I agree with your approach maybe not at 500 but certainly by 3000 and once a couple of oil changes are under your belt switch to Mobile 1.
Drive it like you intend to right from the start maybe a little less the first 1000 miles or so. But if it breaks I want it to happen while under warranty. ( never has)
I always recommend following the engine builder's (in this case Ford) guidelines for engine break in. Not only do they have the best knowledge of the ring package, cylinder finish and original oil but they're also the ones who you have to justify your break in procedure to if things go wrong.
My FoST prompted me for my first oil change right around 5000 miles. It felt weird to go that long having come from older cars that didn't have smart oil monitoring, but I guess this is normal these days.
