Adding to the seemingly never-ending list of "stuff' benefical for track/HPDE/racing, I am looking for a portable shelter to protect the car and me from sun and rain during racing weekends. After roaming the paddock this past season, it looks like a good size portable shelter is 10' x 20', ideally with side walls or curtains to protect from the rain we get here in the Pacific NW. Some have recommended the EZ-Up brand (more expensive) while others have recommended the Costco Caravan brand (durable but less expensive than the EZ-Up brand).

Other than walking into my nearest Costco, does anyone have any insights about purchasing a portable shelter both in terms of where to purchase (new or used) as well as any accessories you wish you would have purchased?

Thanks for your help.

eBay is where I got mine, has done about 10 weekend events, it even survived the Hongs.

It is 10 x 20 and has four removable sides also, it cost $199

At $2013

In reply to rcl4668: Pep Boys has really cheap Black Friday deals on portable carports today. But they are the type that requires assembling the steel tubing frame and then stretching the canopy over the frame. Great for backyard projects, but a little cumbersome for a race team, compared with EZ-up type canopies.

We've bought EZ Ups at Ocean State Job Lot here in MA. 12x12 was like $80.00-90-00.

I have 2 ez-up 10x10's that i picked up at a black friday sale a couple years ago for $59 ea. that i tie together at events to make a 10x20. it's easier to do 10x10's solo and for some reason the 10x20's are more then double the cost and never go on sale.

the bonus of having the space of a 10x20 or homemade 10x20 is with some plastic sheeting, can of damprid, 4 filtrete filters and a pair of box fans you have a simple functional temporary paint booth.

The Ocean State ones are nice. My father in law has one screwed down on his deck for about two years with no problem, but he does remove the canopy if its going to be windy. I use mine often and it has held up well.
