What would be the cheapest and easiest car to run? I am interested in older cars. I am not interested in newer cars.
When you say 'run" what do you mean?
I meant to have as an extra car, more towards what Classic Motorsports does, but just not so darn expensive. It would not a daily driver and would be a March-November car for this area.
- Something to drive to Road America (190 miles each way)
- Something to drive to the Downers Grove Car show - Import night.
- A car for the daughter and I to go cruising in.
- A car to take the wife down some old highways. (Route 66/Lincoln highway US 30)
- Something to pick up high school girls in when cruising the local sonic or cece's pizza

Something to consider:

If you find one without as much rust (they are out there), they can do all that you require.
<<< this car is a blast to drive. The only mod I have done to the suspension is replacying the shocks and some wider tires.

Volvo 240. Cheap. More available than just about anything. Bomb proof. Versatile, if turbo'd, up the boost, or add a Chevy or Ford V8.
Want to go older? A 142 can be found cheap and clean and they're cool as hell. Much better looking than the later 240s in my opinion.
Might not be a looker, but sure could be a runner.

I didn't know Fiestas were so coveted. There's one for sale on the lemon lot about a mile from where I work.

RockAuto.com shows four KYBs for $75 shipped. Tires should be pretty cheap if you're getting stock sizes...as you know, what you pay for tires is directly affected by size and type. You can get some no name, rock hard tires for uber cheap, or you can pay a lot more if you wanted some really cool ones from Coker or whatever.

I kinda had a little miss-hap one morring and the long story, short the car has a new front beam. The only thing left to do to the car is motor/body. Its been a great car I bought 7yrs a go for $800.
/\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ yup, this is what I can afford for car #4.
$800 is my speed...
