Did a bit of peeking around under my BA/BE Saab today. Photobucket

Spotted this in the front pass. side wheel well. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this means I'm pretty much looking for a new BA/BE car. (Would you drive that in the mountains? That's control arm support there...) The brakes are starting to give out anyways, feels like a bad M.C.

Yikes! I'm no Saab specialist, but that does look a bit too close to the lower control arm mounts for me to flog that thing down some twisty mountain roads!

Some 14ga flat steel, sabersaw, hammer and anvil, mig welder, I bet it can be effectively repaired. Won't be a quick job, but not very expensive.

Weld it. It's just a rose quartz Saab, doesn't have to be a pretty job. Almost identical to the one my folks' had.

Sadly I don't have access to a MIG welder - I don't know how to weld either.

There's a $500 auto Supra Targa in town....

So you were looking for an excuse to buy the supra then ;)

Yeah, I wouldnt feel safe on that either Slick, its a shame, car looks ok otherwise.

Doesnt TW or one of those guys know someone that can weld that up for you?

Where are you? There are probably qualified volunteers nearby. I'd help, but SoFla isn't close to anybody.

heh.. for the right price, I could consider taking it off your hands.. enough wrecked Classic 900s I could pull parts off of to weld that one up

Yea, easy enough to fix, but it does take more than spit and jb weld to do it.

did all that on the 99.

Looks like the car has been bottomed out pretty good.

This is a Babe car, right? Didn't some guys do that in a Civic that only had 3 wheels?

Take it to your local tractor repair place and tell them to shore it up. Make it ugly.

It's tempting. There's also an '87 SPG for sale by a guy I got a bunch of parts from for $200; much cleaner, but blown head gasket. I'm thinking of a cross-engine-swap.

Wisconsin plates right? I'm in Southern Illinois and sold a silver '87 Saab 900 Turbo to a couple guys from Chicago about a year ago. Same wheels and everything. Mine had GRM decals on the front quarterpanels is the only difference...
