So the seats (Front and rear) in my Element are pretty worn, but frankly they weren't the best even when brand new. I'm thinking of fabricating adapters to transplant seats from another car, and I'm looking for suggestions. It seems like every generation has some particularly good transplant candidates. In the 80s people were using Volvo seats, in the 90s a popular source were e30 buckets. What's good now?

90s Volvo seats. The cars are everywhere in the junkyard right now. The seats are awesome. Find a dark gray set and they hold up well and should fit in color wise. Whether they'll fit space wise I don't know!

Observation: don't you need the shoulder belts to be integrated into the front seats? RX-8?

And then there is the airbag stuff to consider.

Loved my 04 jag x type seats. Very firm but I could spend all day in that car and get out and feel great.

Seatbelts are independent on the 2004 Element. I imagine that airbags won't be an issue unless I wire it wrong

I take my dogs with me all the time. Was thinking of getting easily removable covers that I can ditch when in polite company. Something like this:

It's pretty easy to figure out the wiring on those seats. I had one working on my garage floor at one point to test. They only have a few wires to the brain box - mounted on the bottom of the seat - that are I believe batt+, ground, heat+/-, and maybe ignition switched power. All functions other than controlling Heat are on the seat.

That all assumes you want to keep the power stuff. Tilt would need to stay power so you'd need something wired up.

You'll need to log in to post.
