I live in FL but work in MI, so I have a car and apartment (no garage) in MI. I need to spend some quality time with a stuck brake caliper. Are there any DIY shops in town where you can rent space by the hour? It would also be nice to be able to do my own oil changes, etc up here.
EDIT for no caffeine this morning. Where exactly in Detroit?
The shop I used to work at in Waterford Hills will rent a lift for $25 an hour, no lift, just a flat is $20 or less an hour. That includes alignment rack, brake lathes, etc.
My apartment is in Sterling Heights but I'll travel to find a good spot.
check out Munk's Motors in Waterford, 248-681-8082, and get on their email list. they have a deal where they offer shop usage in trade for helping clean and set up for events that they hold at the shop -- tech meetings for various local car clubs, etc.

Announcement from Munk's re. earning shop credits:
Attention Motorheads:
We need your help.
We're hosting a swap meet here at the shop on Sunday. And we could really use your help any time between today and Sunday. We're here early, we're here late -- if you have time to spare, we welcome you! We need to arrange the floor, set up tables, set up a P.A. system, hang signs & banners, cordon off 'not for sale' and 'do not enter' areas...we can keep you busy.
We're offering $25/hour credit if you have time to spare. You can even come in on Sunday and work the event. We'd love to see you.
If not, as always, we never hold it against you.
Hope to see you soon!
