What area is that? I was serious in my offer. I've made a significant portion of my living building harnesses for hot rod and race cars over the last 15 years, and would absolutely love to be involved in another challenge effort. Could even be enough to get me to attend finally, and bring my own car to run in exibishon.

With the new knock off Weber IDF carbs as cheap as they are I can't help dirty thoughts of six of them and zoomie pipes in something without a hood like my '40 International.

Old school hot rod with the jag rear and a Nova front suspension and it might even handle all right.

This thing is just a little nasty. I still have not worked up the nerve to sit in it. I really don't think the interior can be saved. Curmudgeon, I'll get in touch with you at the same time. I was originally thinking eventual hill climb and autocross, but I am hearing Challenge a lot. I went, way back in 2004, with a hopelessly under prepared rotary powered VW Bug. I had a blast, but definitely feel like I left a lot on the table. If I can talk someone here, who probably knows who they are, into lending some expertise and advise, (as long as he does not tell me to use a rotary and is willing to work for beer), I could be talked into it. Stay tuned.

Cool. If you are really thinking Challenge instead of LeMons, first thing I'd do is figger out how to make the thing a manual, then start stripping crap out to lighten it up and uncork the exhaust. You mentioned Corvette wheels, the Jag uses the common Chevy 5 x 4.75" bolt circle so there's a ton of choices for inexpensive wheels, both new and used.

Back to the manual trans for a moment: it's been told to me that it isn't terribly difficult to modify a 'scatter shield' for a Chevy to bolt to the back of a Jag motor and you can probably find a used one dirt cheap on the various drag race web sites. Then you can start hunting the various 5 speeds that were available for Chevys. The m/t flywheel was pretty much only available for Urpeen Jags, there are aluminum flywheels available for around $375.00. The pedal setup from a Fox body Ford can be modified to fit the Jag firewall etc. That's a good bit of work but is a damn sight cheaper than the Driven Man or Jags That Run swap kits. Yeah, I do browse V12 Jag stuff occasionally.

Thanks! I'm a month or so away from being able to do any meaningful work on it, but will gladly take all the help I can get. We will definitely keep in touch.

Yeah. The admins will probably remember the back glass popping out of the Bug and banninate you. OBTW: I found a used Lakewood scattershield on e Bay, the bidding was at $59.99. Yes I'm an enabler, as you are well aware.

re- the trans- the auto box is a GM box, isn't it? And I seem to remember that there are some good hot rod modifications that are done to those GM boxes- I even know some Vette and Camero guys who autocross with auto trans' and are REALLY quick.

Perhaps look into what can be done with that box, or one similar before doing the actual swap- may end up a lot less expensive.

To make a vette or camaro auto good for auto-x I would assume you can just lock it in second gear. Lightweight vehicle with plenty of torque, just take the shifting out of it. I know that's what some of the fox body CP guys do (I think they use the auto cause it can take abuse the T5 usually can't).

I would think a v12 could use a similar theory.

A reverse pattern manual valve body could do it but those ain't cheap. IIRC the box is a TH400 with the Jag bellhousing pattern, I think there's a fair amount that can be done to the valve body by selectively drilling/blocking holes in the separator plate or even using a 'shift kit'. It keeps the stock shifter pattern etc but can be made to literally snap your neck on gear changes. That B&M kit is like $40 at Advance.

OBTW: this thing does run!
