So Ms. Flight Service just gave me the go ahead to start shopping for an exotic. And in my normal fashion this will be a 24 month procedure. So that being said she also settled which exotic/supercar it will be.

A silver 911.

So which one should i get? My boy racer says PDK Turbo S Chrono, but the budget side of me says 911 base 6 speed. Realistically this will be a weekend/nice day car with maybe 6 competitive events a year (track days/autocrosses etc)

So what say you GRM faithful? Which model of Silver Wasserboxer 911 will I be aquiring?

Must BOOK for $30K or less (assuming depreciation over the next 24 months OK)

No convertibles. Targas OK

It will be Silver.

Edit: Using Edmunds as a quick check (instead of Black Book, hey were 2 years out and I am lazy at this stage) I believe 2007 and older will be in the price range for the base Coupe, but would it be better to go a little older and get a different model? That is the big question here.

Seriously, I want a 993, but the non-cabs are a bit out of the price range for a nice one.

That's the one that tries to kill people!!!

did my comments on how the Volt works piss people off that bad? LOL

That's what makes it fun! If the car is faster than "fun at legal speeds" but less violent than "this may actively try killing you if you aren't careful" I don't see the point.

I've met many porsche enthusiasts who absolutely despise the 996+ on the grounds of the computer does too much. Most of those guys are still driving the widow maker 930T and 964 series.

Yeah, I love my kids, I want to stick around to be a grandpa and watch them drive stupidly overpowered things in the field like mine did me.

wife and kids weekend fun car, not "Look at meeeeohE36 M3 TREE!" car.

I haven't seen 996 turbos for less than 35 in any kind of shape I want to own. That being said I have seen a few less than 40k for sure that I would own

Of course all the trust fund lease babies are dropping their 2008 4dr E92 m3s now and can be had more mid 30's as well

You won't find PDK until the 997 cars so finding a turbo S 997 is going to be quite a bit more $$$

If I could not get a 996 Turbo, I would go something that felt classic and timeless

There's no reason you couldn't daily a 964 or 993. My wife is doing it with the 964 and someone at my kids dentist office has been doing it with a 993 for the past 8 years that we've been going there. It would be like driving just about any other 20-25 year old car with a bit higher parts costs. The 964 is the last of the cars that are unmistakably 911. Nobody ever asks what it is, they all know. Having said that, I really think any of the air cooled cars are a better bet when they have a backup car.

What about a silver mid engined 911, the better car they let slip out of the factory with 'Cayman S' on the butt instead of '911'?

Honestly if I was buying a 911, I would only be looking for an air cooled one. Not cause I have something against the watercooled because they are watercooled but because the aircooled cars are better looking IMHO and the watercooled cars are still going down in value.
