So before Thanksgiving my sister is sitting at a drive thru in her '06 Legacy Non-Turbo SOHC. While running it just hiccupped and stopped running. Knowing Subaru's reputation I figured the timing belt broke but a quick scan showed it was in tact. Upon further inspection the belt most likely had not been serviced and stripped off ~8-10" of teeth.
I ordered a timing belt set and installed but the engine wouldn't turn over. I got a JDM EJ20 delivered for $1000 vs 2300 for a used USDM EJ25. I used Intake, Cam Gears, Crank Timing Gear. There were a few differences however (PCV Setup, USDM had Adjustable Cam Timing.... JDM Does Not, Exhaust Downpipes are different) Reassembled everything and it fired right up. Sounds great!!! Throwing a code for the Knock Sensor which I plan to swap tomorrow.
Put it in gear and it will not move out of its tracks. My Brother in Law put the engine back in the car while I was at work and the engine was so hard to turn I knew something wasn't right. We pulled engine and transmission back apart and aligned the Torque Converter Bolts it was much easier to turn.
So... possibly break something in the transmission? I can hear it making a buzzing sound when in Drive or Reverse. I'll post a link to a video of the sound. Gauges are showing gear position on dash. Using USDM ECU and transmission worked great before swap. Car sat for 4-5 months untouched.
Throw me some ideas about what's going on here please... I don't know E36 M3 about an automatic transmission.
