On my latest re-do of my AE86 wiring harness, the poor abused 30-year-old grommet gave up and went from slight torn to completely ruined. Where do I find a replacement?
Originals are discontinued from Toyota and there isn't an aftermarket option I can find labelled for AE86 fitment. Grainger and Fastenal have little stuff for up to 1.5" or so, but not as big as 2.25" hole, or about 2.75" O.D. Jegs and Summit sell generic stuff up to about 2" O.D. Cross-referencing other stuff is hard because very few suppliers list dimensions.
Given that the car is painted with an engine bay full and interior, I am trying to avoid cutting/welding.
Here is someone else's car for reference...the hole is like the two beyond the brake booster mount, all the way to to the right edge of the firewall.
And the original rubber looked kinda like this:
I have some really big grommets at work that came out of a 19" locking rack. They have a stepped protrusion, not flat. I'll get measurements and a picture. You can have it for the cost of shipping, if it's the right size and you think it will work.

Maybe McMaster-Carr has something you can use.
Cruise the junkyard, everything has a hole in the firewall.
I may end up cruising the junkyard-ideal would be to find a solid plug I can modify rather than grommet or sleeve; I hate to hack a good harness in half, but also hate to try and feed all the connectors through at the yard. Even more ideal would be to pay a bit more for something that isn't already heat-cycled and crusty. Newer vehicles seem to have a lot more specific-shaped cutouts, like oblongs and rounded trapezoids and such.
Thanks for the links, but once again everything seems too small. Bumboclaat, are you in the Caribbean? What is a 19" locking rack?
there was one hole in the firewall of my 95 Neon that was about that size- the one where the main engine harness passed thru... look in one of those..
I picked one up for a customer's car at a street rod show once that I think might have been an OE GM piece for a truck. It was for a 2" or so hole.
In reply to ae86andkp61:
I'm in upstate NY.
This is the sort of rack these came out of.
And here are the grommets.
These have a 3" OD and are for a 2.75" ID hole.
Could you cast your own with urethane?
