Anyone heading out to Bonneville this weekend or next week for Speed Week?
If you are, stop by the yellow Alfa Spider to check it out. I'll be there next Wed- Friday to see if we can finally get the record they've been working on for 10 years.
It's a gear head's dream event. Oh SO grassroots.

God speed to you guys.
How fast is that anyways?
A bunch of folks left from Loring, ME and are headed straight there.
Best of luck.

It's the speed at which He taps you on the shoulder and says "hi". It's a variable number depending on the conveyance.
I want to go, but someone scheduled our Open House right in the middle of it! Argh.

I was going to go this year, but decided to build the $2009 car instead. I'll be there next year, it's top priority on my "automotive things to do before I die" list.

Here's a picture of our car
The record we are going for is the G/BGMS record, which we actually currently hold, at 217.152 mph.
If all goes well, we'll probably also se the G/BFMS record, which is 221.252 mph. (the difference G = gas- regulated gas, F = Fuel- open fuel).
Got to remember to take a bunch of pictures, and an article for GRM- since this is generally very grassroots in nature.

Too cool! Best of luck to you.
We were planning on going until about two hours ago. Safety and prep issues with the car are causing us to leave our team. They might take it with a different driver though.

What car? I'd love to walk by the pits and check it out.
Not to bash on it, but just to see more cars. That's one of the best parts of going to Speed Week- talking to the other teams- they are always interested in talking about their project. Pretty cool.

You've got a PM or email or whatever happens through "contact a member".
I'd hate to miss it since I live only 1.5hrs away (Salt Lake City), but my schedule is pretty tight next week. For some reason I thought it wasn't until later in the month

where's the GRM sticker?
I hear that they're worth and extra 3 mph!

If Per/David get one to me by next Tuesday, I'll put it on. They know where I live...

Go this Sunday. They start driving on Saturday.

Stickers are on their way.
Quick update- two days in, and one record set, pretty solidly.
The one issue was the driver forgot to qualify for his 175-200mph range, and did 213 in 3rd gear. Even though the run was well faster than the 203 record, it didn't count. They quickly got back into line, did the 183 mph run, and THEN went out to run just over 224mph.
Sunday morning, 8mph head wind, turn up the boost- 227mph, the record now stands at 225.839 mph for G/BFMS.
Now they are going after the other blown record for the car- the 217 record for the G/BGMS record. I just need to convince them to save some of the car to REALLY turn up the wick on Wed and Thurs, when I'm in town...
Apparently, the salt is the best it has been in years. I can't wait to get out there!!!

So you are 28mph faster that Jesse James' megabucks 572ci twin turbo streamliner. WooHoo! I knew one of us would do it.

Wait until Andy hits the salt. Our program isn't nearly as grassroots as his is. I think he'll be darned close to 200mph w/o boost. That will be really cool.

And, in theory, stickers should arrive today.
Is it still on this weekend - August 15? Looks like I might be able to make the trip.
Congrats on the record!

No, last day is Friday, the 14th- and it's a half day.
I so wish I was already there. I hate waiting.
And thanks!

Homebuilt Alfa Spider Turbo that goes over 220mph? That would seem like an article for GRM, I hope they do it!
