I DD on 452's (255/50 and 275/40 staggered) and I love them. They are excellent in the cold and wet Pacific NW winter, and the dry performance is very good. I have drag-raced and auto-crossed on them and they are surprisingly good. They are my favorite dedicated DD tire now.

I run the Ziex ZE- 512 on the MR2 when it is not on the track and I like them a lot. They are priced right, and work really well for my level of power/weight. I see no reason to spend any more for a DD tire than the Falken.

I continue to read great things about the KDW 2 and Conti DW.

Unfortunately I'm in the same predicament. I have an '06 350Z I just picked up, and apparently the VDC won't play nice with a square setup.

I dont think the 912s are very sticky from my experience with them (205/55r15s fwiw). I would think the 452 would be far better for that kind of car.

Yeah, the 512/912 is better suited to flyweight cars (Miata, MR2, RX7 SA/FB) and the 452 is much better for heavier/more powerful ones (P71, 350Z).

My moms grand prix gtp has fk452s, they are crap in the rain. I know its not just the car, becasue it had avon tech m500s on it before and was far better, but they dont sell those anymore. I would go with BFGs for daily driver tires, I have g-force sports on my alfa and they are great in both wet and dry.

There was a set of Falken Ziexes on the Cobra when we first bought it. They were horrid. I'm not sure if that was the tire or it's age, but the set of Kumho ASXs that replaced them were significantly better, and continue to be what I suggest for those seeking an allseason with a decent amount of grip.

I'm going to have to say yeah, no, to that claim. I live in Washington State where it rains like 400 days a year. I have no issues whatsoever with wet weather performance and the 452's, and I have a high-torque RWD car!

This. ASXs are great. The Ziexs on the Escort are downright scary, and they're relatively new and in fine shape.

Toyo Proxes4 - My favorite all-season tire under $150/tire. Far better than the Ziex 512's (mentioned above) - having used 3 sets of each, that's an honest opinion. Also, the Proxes4 are the best rain tire I've ever used, period, on any car.

If you have $$$, the Pilot Sport A/S is the best A/S tire out there, period, in my book. But the Proxes4 are half the price and almost as good!

I will modify my statement a bit. On a 99 grand prix gtp, wet traction and freeway seppds is noticably worsewith the fk452s then the other 2 sets of tires the car has had, some really expensive bridgestones that were on it when we got it, and a set of avon tech m500s. If they work on someone elses car great, thats why they still sell them, but i wouldnt buy them again.,

Best street tires I've ever owned were the Toyo T1-S's. I've ran the Proxes 4 in back to back comparisons (T1's on my '98 Cobra and 4's on my g/f's '98 Cobra) and the T1's blew them away. Unfortunately they aren't offered anymore as they've been replaced with the T1-R's. I have a set of T1-R's sitting in my living room (waiting on my wheels). Obviously I haven't tried them yet but I'm anxiously waiting to give them a go. Anybody have any experience with the R's compared to the S's?

+1 for the kumho ASX very good tire! great street performance tire and has performed and held up well in all conditions including 1-2" of snow.

+1 again on the ASX ... I didn't chime in right away because my aplictions weren't simmilar (protege5 and Subie 2.5GT, both diven in anger 90% of the time).

It's my go to tire for all 'less then summer only' applications. its comfortable, cheap, and sticks 'better then most'. They will work in the snow when needed but not when the tread gets close to the wear bars. On 3/4 tread my wife in the subaru can and will pass the snow plow. On very little tread I will still barnstorm every corner on the street with my protege with out any worry!
