I doubt it is... considering how close Italian and Spanish is
The Spanish "punta" translates to point/tip/end, which can be slang for butt. "Puta" translates to whore, that's the actual (very) insulting one. Punta's close enough to be funny to an English speaker.
Beat me to it.. Ive lived 2-300 miles from Mexico my entire life and i never thought the word punto was particularly funny.
