That's sweet. EV West does some similar stuff with stock bodied 911s. For me, I'd have loved to do that with my old '63 Mercury Comet. It weighed in at about 2500 lbs in stock form (with heavy seats and an iron 6 cyl) so I'd bet that it could be kept under 3000 lbs with the Tesla stuff in it.

I want to like it but the polished cage just loses me.

Holy mother of all that is holy. Why is the only thing I ever wanted all of a sudden a wide body Maserati biturbo with an electric conversion?

So you made me go and look.  I didn't find any wide body kits for the biturbo.  Big profit opportunity for someone!!

Beautiful show car that won't get driven.  I have a sneaking suspicion this is what future hotrodding of ICE platforms looks like.

There were some factory variants that were sorta widebody. Shamal and Ghibli.

Me, I'd love to put the drivetrain in an ND Miata. But properly. The 1966 Cadillac would work pretty nicely as an EV as well, it's basically what Cadillac was going for.

You act like this is a new idea. Trailered and even completely undriveable show cars have been a thing since the first custom cars were built. There's an entire city block filled with them every year at SEMA.

I love that.

When I see these I always wonder why the RWB guys keep ruining 911's.

Don't these RWB cars just get rolled around to car shows in and out of trailers? Should've just gone with an electric golf cart drivetrain

First thing I noticed. Strikes me a bit like sci-fi movies that have scientifically implausible plots. I get that the roll bar is for style points, but maybe see it through with a seat that wouldn't kill you in a crash?  Or that could accept some kind of seatbelt?

I definitely dig the idea of this car, but from an execution standpoint I’m turned off by the SEMA/trailer-queen vibe.  Also not a fan of any car that will get high-centered attempting to enter a driveway or cross over a speed bump.

That said, as much as I like where all this EV conversion stuff is going, my tastes tend more toward this 911 conversion, which also sports a Tesla drivetrain from EV West, but is waaaaaay more GRM in my opinion.  I’d drive the wheels off of this...

Considering this car will only ever be driven from the back of a truck to a car show floor at 10mph, I don't think there's much to worry about.

I know, right? And I'm okay if it's more of a show car. It shows us what's possible. 

Okay, let's compare the cost of the EV version compared to building the same thing with a Porsche drivetrain. Yeah, I get it, it's to show off the shop's abilities, and we seem to agree the EV version isn't driving anywhere, but still. My current impression is that EV conversions aren't yet a financially viable alternative, yet. 

Edit: I just realized that the show car probably doesn't have the battery packs, so they can claim it's a $10k cheaper conversion, hah.

A 420kw/570hp air cooled 911 drivetrain will be crazy, crazy expensive.

A car like this is not about the cheapest way to do something.

Heh.  I had an '87 RX-7, my roommate wanted to turn it into a stereo competition car.  He figured it didn't need to actually run, and if we stuck an electric motor on the diff, it could move around at walking speed well enough.

(then he bought a '73 S&S Superior hearse.  Much more room for speakers)
