Shameless plug of my car since cars like these ^ are the reason I've got a small fortune of time and energy into 14" wheels:

Your RX7 looks absolutely fantastic!

Learning about Japanese wheels sent me down a deep rabbit-hole and I was in awe because much of that stuff was previously unknown to me, and also flabbergasted by the costs involved with acquiring the genuine ones.

Thanks! The prices really vary on wheels depending on how rare and desirable they are, as well as their width and offset. My star sharks were only $350 for the pair but when I got them they were 14x6", I rebuilt them to 8."

Just out of curiosity, who is a reputable source or good value for those bolt-on fender flares...?

Also, what are you all running for 14-inch tires? That market keeps shrinking.

I was running federals but haven't been able to find any in the last month, there are still 2 or 3 options for a 185/55r14 without having to spend a lot on Toyo R888s

Falken makes the Azenis RT660 in 195/60 14

My RX-7 is on all-season Hankook Optimo in the same size.

Thanks and, yeah, I have seen those, and I know that Toyo and Nitto offer 14-inch R-comps. My fear is, what will be available in 5 years? Will I still be able to get a sporty tire?

I'm switching to 15s on my Z for that reason.

I also have some flares on the way, so I can officially join the cool club soon.

Roger that, I'm switching to 16" to use a good summer tire. I'd like something better than the Hankook Optimo, but not as extreme as the Falken RT-660.

I doubt it will get worse then already is.

Those Japanese wheels tend to be very lightweight; as a guy who pounds the kerbs I tend to stay away from them for track work. For a street only car I might run a set, they are really cool.

Oil cooler just stuck on the front is dumb, but I love it anyway.

I never got into JDM stuff but lately have been loving it,

what was the reason that the Skylines mounted their oil coolers externally?

.

One thing that cracked me up after reading a bit about the old days of Japanese racing was the origin story of those OK stickers that many of the cars always had...

...was actually a condom company! LOL

To the best of my knowledge, they wanted the most possible air flow for cooling, and that's not a bad place to get clean air. Great place to receive a bump though.
