I think people just assumed t5, the original post just says 5 speed. Could have been a tko or another stronger unit. Moot either way.

Can you make it street legal? That might be loads of fun .

Buggy now listed at Racing Junk dot com for $8K.
It's a Baja 1000 type Vintage Racer from the 70's or 80's.
It was street legal with the prior owners, waiting on Probate action to get the street title.
Not thrilled to sell it but I cannot find trail partners and need to slim down to only about six cars.
Sell Buggy = Buy Lotus parts!

TA seller stated the trans as some brand of racing box, T5 was original.
He claims to have gotten $12K for it.

Easy option for most states is to run it on 100/115 blue avgas.

Since the CAT's are "Hollowed out" that might have worked.

I was going to suggest E85 and rejetting as the fix for compression...

Ws6 was the rpo for the handling package even before 3rd gens

make the trade and if you think a clean 3rd gen trans am is a $3500 car, I've got $3500 for you waiting

GM has used the same RPO codes for decades.  G80 is a limited slip diff.  That's been clutch pack up to modern locking E diffs.  Lots of RPO codes used over the years like the now famous or infamous Z06 for corvettes.  Always check the codes on any GM performance car you buy.

Just say it had gone through.  How do you know that dyno sheet was for that car.  Want me to download a few dyno sheets for you?  Time slip the same.  Name a time and I'll give you a time slip.  383?  Can you tell by looking at the outside of the engine?

Quoting this for truth.  Its shockingly hard to run 11s on an iron headed street car with a 5 speed and a full interior.   Can it be done?  Sure.  Do most "11 second" 3rd gens run 11s?  Absolutely not.

Couple of dead giveaways if you find yourself in this situation that the seller is full of poo.

  • Does not have slicks or at least drag radials
  • Heads are a stock iron casting, not something like a Dart Iron Eagle
  • Does not have full length headers
  • Does not have a single plane intake and a chop chop choppy cam
  • Trans is stock
  • Rear end is stock
  • Suspension is stock
  • Hollowed out cats/other hackery

Not to mention  - what sort of half-wit would do a balls out 11 second build with iron heads?  Aluminum heads are so cheap and so good at everything there is literally no reason to use iron heads unless you are dictated by a racing class - which with a street car - you are not.

I worked with someone who had a stock iron head 5.0 Mustang GT, convertible even, who ran high 10s with a manual trans.  Because back then your aftermarket head options were slim and none, so he ported them until you could almost see through to coolant smiley

And yeah, he drove around on the street on slicks, and he had skinnies on the front, and transmission did not exactly have any synchronizers.

What was funny was, he bought a brand new '96 GT and declared that he would leave THIS one STOCK.   Two weeks later: eh, let's put 3.73s in the rear...

..."and the car is worth $60K when fully restored"!
The heads were port matched Vortecs, and he claimed to have every receipt, dyno sheet, and time slip.
None of which matters now as he sold it to someone else.

I will not be entertaining any more trade offers, "Trade" just means they cannot afford it.
Turned down some nice boats, I am not a boater.
Turned down a nice Harley, I am not interested in wearing a "Biker" costume.
Turned down a Samurai, I already have a far superior Land Rover.

No one is offering me a decent TR, MG, or El Camino, so it is only CASH I want.
