I picked up a set of soft 8's in 17 because you can't get wide rubber in smaller sizes. They are a bit heavy but they are really growwing on me. The centre caps really made the look IMO.

I think a design needs a certain ratio of metal to rubber to look right. Wheels with large, wide spokes visually work best when they're paired with tall sidewalls and meaty tires. American Racing Torque-Thrusts generally make sense in 15", but a 17" one is only going to look right with truck sized tires.  Thin spoke, meshy wheels look best with low profile rubber - think most BBS designs, or Kosei K1s.

Disc wheels with no spokes - whether they're the steelies or something like Center Line Auto Drags - are a bit harder to fit into a metal to rubber ratio rule.
