Why did forum member crankwalk just ship a 1984 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet coupe up to Alaska? Because he lives there and has wanted a V8 Ferrari for years.

“A lot of Ferrari people hate Mondials,” he posted. “A lot of non Ferrari people hate Mondials. I don’t get it and don’t care. I have thought they were cool since I …

Cabriolet coupe? surprise

I've occasionally heard the sirens' call of the Mondial, thinking of it as an underappreciated and unique family fun car... But that line of thinking always comes back around to the "Well... Sometimes I think can do crystal meth, but then I think hmm... better not."

This has me squarely back around to the first thought again.

The coupes really aren't family cars. You can kind of get kids in the backseat of a cabriolet with the top down but it's almost impossible to have room to drive and have anyone in the back of a coupe. It's a great place to put "stuff" just not people.

I don't know if they share any dimensions, but I've driven a Dino GT4 2+2.  I'm 5'-10" with a short inseam, like 30".  In my driving position the leading edge of the back seat physically touched the back of the front seat.

To paraphrase P J O'Rourke, "There isn't room for kids in the back seat - at least not the normal kind with arms and legs and everything."

Is that pic of the drivers seat in a useable position? What's your height/inseam? As shown, that would be tons of rear legroom for a family-fun car.

I'm 5'9" with a 32" inseam I guess. I have the fire extinguisher  in the back but no, if you are older than 4 years old you can't slide your feet under the front seats and have your head straight up in a coupe.

Here's a shot from a cabriolet to give you an idea. They have a slightly different seat design and smaller center section. If everybody is 5'6" or shorter then maybe.

My two favorite are the 340 America and the Mondial.  As the 340 is ever so slightly out of my price range I'd have to go with the Mondial. If were to ever actually buy lotto tickets and win then I'd also buy a 340.

I've actually driven a F355, 360, 456 and 410 Super America (wanna drive my 7 million car?) . While I know the Mondial isn't earth shattering; I just like the looks of them and the motor sounds great.

Me too... I'm just not sure if that's more of an enabling, or a warning.
