December 2021 I replaced the original Pirelli tires on my street triple with a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 3 tires and the Roadsmart 4 tires had just come out and the 3's were discounted a bit. I was very happy with the 3's btw. Earlier this year I replaced the rear RS 3 with a roadsmart 4. It has been a remarkable tire as well. Anyway those tires were close enough I felt that it wasn't REALLY a mismatch. Bike rides fine. Great in fact. Here's my dilemma.

The front tire will need replaced at the latest in December. I can always just get a Roadsmart 4 for sure but what I want to get is a Dunlop Mutant front and then replace the rear with a Mutant when the rear tire wears out. Going off Dunlop marketing speak other than the very slight off road capabilities of the Mutant vs the RS 4 they sound pretty similar in performance. Obviously this is my bias because I want to do this. What is the Hives opinion on this? I do like to ride relatively aggressively I say relatively because compared to some of you it's like Driving Miss Daisy and it's strictly public roads so no real shenanigans like a track.

I imagine you'd be fine. ADV guys run all sorts of weird combos and they go hard.

You might have a little more total grip at the back but if you're not dragging knee I can't see that being a huge issue.

Go for it, plenty of bikes out there with mismatched tires.  Unless you have a street front and full knobby rear, shouldn't cause any issues.

Great! Seems like the old saying about tires needing to match has changed with newer tire technologies.  Appreciate it.
