From today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune: "Jeff Tucker of Golden Valley is all bundled up as he readies his 2000 Kawasaki Super Sherpa for the 75th New Year’s Day I-Cycle Derby on Wednesday at Diamonds Coffee Shoppe in northeast Minneapolis. Participants rode about 50 miles on Twin Cities roads in 20-degree temperatures. The derby is one of the longest-running motorcycle events in the U.S."

Is there a polar bear plunge at the end of the ride?
It's Minnesota. Those dudes all have heated snowmobile suits. The Hippo-hands he has above are one of the secrets to really cold riding but some people, believe it or not, get freaked out when they look down and can't see their hands. Sounds stupid but it's real.
No polar plunge associated with the motorcycle ride, but there will be a number of others over the next couple months that are dedicated to charities.
When I was younger I tried to ride my motorcycle at least once a month through the winter, but I was always a little scared of hitting an icy spot. I got over that as I aged, the bike stays inside until spring is here.

Bike doesn't come out here unless it's warm and pavement is totally dry. Usually can ride a few times during the winter if I really want to

Where's the snow? I can attest to hands getting cold on a ride in 20-degree weather. Went on a few rides like this when I lived in Colorado but didn't have anyone to take my picture. In the mountains west of Denver is pretty just about all year 'round but it's pretty empty. This is the same VFR that Nocones has now.

Salt on the roads up here is thick enough to season a side of beef. That prevents me from taking the Cougar or the Duc out.
