Asking for a friend.

He has a real nice KLR 650 for sale, $2300.  In the UP of Michigan.

If I didn't have a Grom on the brain it would be mine already.

I need one, but I need to get rid of my 08 SV650 beforehand first. Good luck to him! That thing is awesome, and should sell quick

That is a clean KLR, but too far for me. Plus quite a few for sale around here already (in the ATL).

I need that.  Will wifey agree?

Educate me - why the tires not all knobby and aggressive?

I can live out my “Little Fauss and Big Halsy” bucket list item.

Dan keeps his stuff nice and clean, no knobbies means no off road.  You should see his AW11 MR2 that he bought at a garage sale.

It has had the dohickey upgrade, it's a KLR thing apparently.

Wow! That is and understatement..... Great shape! One of the older models I am guessing?  I have been in the PI for three months working, and will be coming back in a week, I live in FL,  And I am wanting another, “smaller” bike enduro to ride, (I have a HD Ultraclassic that I inherited) And I see a number of these for sale, but that one is screaming at me...lol

Help me out here...pro and con the [Hobie AI] for me. I would look at a 2012-2014 model depending on whats available. I'm to understand the 2014 New Edition has some improvement.

Nice looking bike but I have a hard time understanding the popularity when the DR650 weighs close to a hundred pounds less.

In reply to ebelements :

It's a far cry from 100lbs difference - more like 20lbs dry, 40-60lbs wet. Liquid cooling can account for much of that weight difference, and is a big plus to some people. I don't think there's a compelling case for the DR650 being any better than a KLR650 other than weight, and the KLR has plusses to offset the weight gain. (Both are good bikes!)

Edit: I remembered the KLR having a big gas tank .. sure enough, 6 gallons versus the DR650's 3 gallons. So 24 of those wet weight pounds is because the KLR has a bigger gas tank, which is a huge plus to me.

Having owned one they are the John Deer lawn tractor of motorcycles, and I mean that in a good way. The one that started this thread is way too nice. KLRs are meant to be dropped, kicked, set on fire, etc.

A KLR is a better road travel bike than a DR. The DR is a better dirt bike than the KLR.

I liked mine but it ultimately was too buzzy for long trips with the single. I beat the tar out of it (and it was already used hard when I bought it). Only thing I remember fixing was the headlamp bulb socket and a loose battery terminal.

I am one of the few that has actually blown up a KLR.

As someone who has managed to have a 20R die on me, AND a 22R-E crack a head, I'm not one to say that they're the be-all end-all of reliability. But, to their credit, they didn't WANT to die, but the curse of the previous owner had stricken them.

I say that is quite an accomplishment, killing something that is just about unkillable. Take it as a badge of honor.
