will i just ordered a set of 265/75/16's from tread wright to replace the balding m/t that are currently on my truck now. I have read quite a few review and people seem really happy with these tires and for the price its hard to say no. I had cooper stt's on my landcruiser that i traded for this truck and loved them, the tread wright "claw" looks pretty simular so thats what i went with. heres a link to the tires, they are the "bead to bead" re-caps which i havent read alot about so we will see how they do:

https://www.treadwright.com/p-119-265-75r16-claw-b2b-e-m-t.aspx

The truck in question is my 99 f250 light duty, basically half way between a 1/2 and 3/4 ton truck. 5.4 with the 4r100 trans, thicker frame, 4wd, heavier torsions/leafs (not sure if actual 3/4 ton stuff), and sterling 10.25 rear axle with 3.73 lsd. I mostly just use the truck for the 5 minute drive to work and to a heavy hauler for me and any of my friends who need it, i do some wheeling when i get the chance but try to say on the paved roads since its a DD. I will update this when the tires arrive and i have them mounted.

also a fun fact, the f250 light duty's (later known as f150 7700's) have a 7 lug wheel pattern. so next time you find a 7 lug truck you know its a beefed up f150

I had a set of the MTs on my 4runner. Decent enough for the money. Worked well in the mud. Somewhat high on balancing requirements but that could just be MTs tires in general.

I have 6 retreads on my dually, although not from the same company as you. I don't use the truck all that often, but they've been on it for probably 4 years or so. Just this weekend I took one of the rears off to add air, since the stupid valve doesn't line up, and noticed that the sidewalls, which obviously are older carcasses, were dry rotted. Not something I ever gave a lot of thought to, but here I am with tires that have treads that look like new and sidewalls that are soon going to need tubes to seal.

In reply to bravenrace:

That's been the biggest thing stopping me from buying them. Treadwright does have a pretty decent reputation, significantly greater number of folks singing their praises on forums than bad mouthing them. It seems though, even with Treadwright, carcass life is a crapshoot. I've read good things about their warranty and customer service though, so I could totally see me as a potentially Treadwright customer.

yea one of the big things for me was customer service (especially being a retread and everything that comes with that) and i too have seen good things about them making good with there customers

also in terms of the dry rotting in the side walls, thats why im interested to see how the bead to bead does, keeping the original carcus from exposure to the elements should help prevent that atleast for a little while longer i would assume. the only thing im kinda worried about is if the original sidewall starts drying out and im not able to notice it with the retread going over the sides.

small update:

well i got a call yesterday and was told that they are having issues with the "claw" tires that i ordered and i would not be able to get them in any kind of a timely manner. I said "ok well how about the max trax?" they are a little more agressive then what i would prefer but i could deal with that, they said same thing, long term delays...

so basically they said i could get the guard dogs and they would be shipped tomorrow (which is now today). I ask if they are bead to bead like i had ordered on the claw, again to my disappointment they said no. the gaurd dogs will probably be good enough for any offroading i will be doing in my truck, but i didnt order the gaurd dogs for the simple reason that i liked the claw more, and now i wont be getting it.

I understand that when i ordered them they said it would be 3-4 weeks before they would be shipped, but when it takes you 3 weeks before you even let me know its now not an option its a little frustrating. they also havent updated there website to say anything about being on an long delay or simply "currently out of stock", therefore it will probably be causing other people the same frustration that im having.

so now i will be ending up with the guard dogs because i didnt really have any options from here since i didnt have more money to spend on different tires and my leaky tire i have now isnt getting any better.

ill update again once i recieve them and have them mounted

my tires finally came in, they look good no wear of any kind i can see on the side walls. they are on 2 different types of tire, 2 are firestone transforce and the other 2 are bridgestones.

you can tell that they are re-caps pretty easilly with the molding unevenly coming down onto the sidewall some (still wish i would have been able to get the bead to beads ) but overall they look good, getting them mounted friday morning and ill update from there

I'd be pretty disappointed if, after all that, I didn't get a matching set.

Availability is why I ended up with IROK NDs. Keep us posted, I'm interested in how they hold up. I might be going down a size or two in the future.

yea but i wasnt really worried about a matching set, to me its just words on a sidewall and a load rating, since its just on my DD as long as they are all same tread, size, and load rating its good enough. atleast its 2 and 2 so i can have 2 of the same on the front and 2 same on the rear

That is the type I got a few years ago. That sucks that they didn't match carcasses though. I had 4 goodyear something or others. They claw at mud pretty well but I had difficulty getting them to turn. Also, I hope you have the power to turn them as my 3.slow 4runner had to work hard and the stock low range wasn't low enough for my tastes.

the 5.4 does alright for itself. i was able to spin my 4 worn a/t's on pavement in 4 low trying to pull a bush out so it should do ok.

another quick question, anybody used balance beads in the tire to balance them? mine equal out to only about 32" tall so i probably dont need them but wanted to know if anybody had experience with them

I've heard mixed reviews from the local 4x4 club. Seems like they're not worth messing with unless you're running 38"+ tires.

sorry for the late update. I got them mounted and balanced and have been driving on them for 3ish weeks so far. They did take a decent amount of weight to balance out which i wasnt real excited about, one took about 20 oz to get right. after i got them on i drove around for a while. even though they did take a lot of weight to get right they did balance out well and i couldnt feel any vibrations. They do have a light hum at highway speeds but its barely noticable with the windows up, with them down its still not bad with the radio at a normal volume.

so far for on road use i dont have any complaints. now that its getting warm ill be finding somewhere soon to try them offroad.

Buddy of mine just replaced a set of tread wrights, tread wear was good, after they sent him a second set, first one wouldn't balance. Reason he replaced was the bfg carcasses started dry rotting and cracking. He's liking the duratracs so far.
