I hate people like that. $1500 or scrap? Most of those cars aren't worth more than what, $300 at most in scrap? Why not advertise them for a reasonable proce so they actually sell rather than making sure no one gets them.
Great, save a picked-over car from the junkyard and spend the rest of your life working on it.
I love my old cars but whatever is there, is there for a reason.
I passed on another '48 Chevy today because there wasn't enough left to bother hauling away. No money in 4-doors with no trim left. Not even for $300.00
At least they were in a junkyard for a while so they could be used for parts to keep the roadworthy ones alive.

Most of those junkyards arent like that though (not arguing on the too big a job ot restore point, just the availability of the parts). I tried to buy a 400 small block chevy, the guy wanted $450 I think (it was sitting on the ground outside). 6 months later, that and everything else in the yard went to scrap. Most of those places have all that stuff because the prices are waaay too high. This one sounds like they wernt ever really being parted out, just sitting there decomposing.
This is supposed to be the James Gardner Auto Collection site:

It's exceeded it's daily site traffic limit whenever I've tried it, so there might be considerable interest to say the least.
That sucks. I hate seeing old cars destroyed, even if they only have some useable parts left on them.

It looks like she's trying to get the most for them - anything that's left will be $600 for 10 days before the scrapping...
How about the GRM universe all pitch in together and buy the whole collection. Of course, since I first proposed the idea, I get first dibs...
She's been selling them for years. Or trying to. People talk, very few people actually buy. Either cars or parts.
She's had enough, and it's time for the junk to go. If you want to wait until September 4th, when the price drops to $600, roll the dice.
Otherwise, they are her cars, and she can do with them as she wishes.

This is the thing - it's too bad, but if people were buying the cars she wouldn't be selling them to the crusher. I see these kinds of stories every month or so; everyone online complains about it, but no one actually goes there to buy anything.

And we'll store them in your yard???
I still say that happens way too often, people collect that kind of thing and price it way high, then all of the sudden it all has to be gone in a month or it will be scrapped. Whoever they belong to, there are still lots of useful parts there (and likely restorable cars) and they will never be any more than there are now.
You see the same crap on American Pickers. The owners want an unreasonable price for junk. You know a year or two down the line, all thier stuff will be hauled off in huge dumpsters when the 107 year old collecter dies and the kids want the land.

Hmm....1000 old cars or the wife???? Can I get an inventory list before I decide?
It isn't always a case of the owner pricing their cars too high, buyers expect them to sell their stuff for pennies. If the price for scrap goes up enough, the owner is better off getting rid of the cars that way and avoiding the hassle of dealing with cheapskates.

I scrapped an Aspire for over $300 (I want to say $380 all in?) a couple months ago including the cat. Not sure what scrap prices are at now, but we've got several recyclers around here, and they compete.
Personally, I'd rather see Grandma say berkeley the whiners. Crush every last one of 'em and go on vacation.
