was that 80's or early 90's?

I can say with absolute confidence that it was 1984.

You could wear a sport jacket with jeans (be daring and wear acid washed) and white runners. The Mullet started as a punk thing in the late 70's, but became mainstream in the 80's.

As we all know, the mullet, just like the mustache never goes out of style. It just takes a rest.

Arggghhhhhh! Do you realize we don't have even one curling iron in this whole house. How can they expect me to do 80's hair without a curling iron?

By the 80's I had settled into jeans and tshirts, I'm afraid. 70's party, I can help you out a bit.

I wish I had kept a pair of my zip up platform sole boots. Nothin like a 6'2" guy in 3" heels.

DOH! How did I forget the OP. Hobie wear worked too, I was skate-punk, not preppy. I guess you remember what you despise. Anyone remember Sedgefield jeans? You could skate in those without getting racked.

You only wore Hobie if your parents had crappy jobs.

I see girls now wearing preppy stuff described on page one and also I saw a girl wearing stonewashed tight faded jeans yesterday. 80s fashion rolling around again..?

Lots of advice for the preppy look. Screw that, too easy. 80's punk: Combat boots or Doc Martens, Olive Drab fatigue pants, punk band t-shirt, shaved head.

Black pants, white shirt, skinny black tie, Robert Smith hair:

Don't forget the whole 80's skater thing...

Neon, Jimmy'z shorts, funny side parts

Going to bed now, but google Bones Brigade, Tony Hawk or Christian Hosoi and 80's

Anybody who's in their 40's now knows that when you put gel in your hair, you feel all the wind. I almost died during a weekend trip to Maine in 1986 because of it.

And that was just walking into church from the parking lot.

Both of my little girls are wearing Chuck Taylors now as does pretty much every child lately. And a Polo or Izod shirt is part of the male uniform in the south. So neither of those will get you far.

I second the popped collars and add multiple Swatches.

Nothing says '80's like a Member's Only jacket, long sleeve tee (preferably with something Japanese written on it, or Op, or Sex Wax) and a cassette Walkman with a little Wham playing! If you can round up a Delorean I think you get extra points!

I couldn't find tight jeans but I did do a tight roll on the bottom and I had some shoes that resembled boat shoes. Turned out that a lot of people just wore some sort of costume.

I'm too embarrassed to post pics, but my wife went as PREGNANT.

It was our daughter April's 30th birthday party and since my wife was pregnant with our daughter when she turned 30 my wife's costume consisted of being pregnant again. So we had just about to born April visiting her 30 year old self.

I'd say that was a paradox, but in actuality there was only one Doc there.

The sad thing is when we moved the last time we got rid of all our authentic 80's gear. I had some Gecko pants that would have just made the outfit. Little geckos all over the pants.

Tight rolling the pants is key. Details count.

Probably the only time Christian Slater was associated with skateboarding.

Tony Hawk did Slater's skating for him...

Odd....I don't follow skating, but I guess Hawk's more versatile than I had thought.....I thought of him as a half pipe master, but didn't know that he did the sort of street terrain tricks that slater's character did in the construction site. Of course, that's exactly what Hawk was doing in that police academy movie....I'll shut up now

To learn the origins of American, California Skateboarding, see the movie The Lords of Dogtown. Shown here in 13 ten minute videos.

These are the guys that preceeded Tony Hawk. These guys are Tony Hawk's mentors.

I forgot about the Mullen contribution to Gleaming the Cube. That said, Hawk can do most of the basic newschool street tech flip stuff that's out there. It's all in the Tony Hawk Trick Tips vids. Versatile dude.

Anyway, the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys is an even more accurate portrayal of those years. This was one of the main motivators to get me back on the board 5+ years ago after a 15 year hiatus.

Hawk give props to his predecessors, for sure. However, there's no getting away from his well-deserved legend status. Still destroys whatever he skates (when he's not philandering).

While Hawk is no slouch, IIRC, I'm pretty sure the flat land skating (construction site) was done by Rodney Mullen. Rodneys latest stuff: Rodney Mullen FYI: The most absurd thing I've seen done on a skateboard happens at 1:45 in the video above.

OK, was sick....sort rail-slide times 10
