My friend called and asked my advice about this car this morning. As I have next to no knowledge of Saabs (especially during the 90s), I thought I would turn to my trusted associates here to see what you think.
Unfortunately, I don't live near him and can't see it on my own, so what advice should I give him and what should I tell him to look for?
Here is the ad for the Saab
Thanks in advance.
I'd look to see if the nitrous kit in the pictures has been installed at any point.
Other than that, unless it has really low miles, that feels overpriced. 00-ish models are selling for that much or less, and they're nicer cars.
In reply to Swank Force One:
My buddy said the guy told him that the NOS had been installed, but couldn't tell me how big the shot is, or how long the guy's been running it.
That was my gut feeling, too, but I wanted to validate it.
I would have a hard time justifying $1500 for this before I saw the nitrous. With that, no thanks.
Looks like a hacked up POS from here. Run.
That said..... if you got it for cheap enough and wasn't looking for a reliable daily driver, i'd absolutely jump on that thing for $1200-$1500 for Challenge fodder.
It's suspension and some "free" V710s away from being a big problem at the Challenge.
Well, he wants to trade it to my buddy for a Cafe Racer Honda CB that he has, so I'm going to say, no dice.
Is the CB worth money and/or is he getting rid of the bike for any reason?
The CB is in incredible shape and my buddy isn't getting rid of it for any specific reason, just wants something else. I'd venture to say that his CB is worth at least $2500.
I had a 900 SE Turbo. It was my first saab. I very quickly got rid of it and bought a classic 900. The 94 gobs of power, but with lag and a wet noodle chassis, no way to safely get it to the ground. It was steering wheel wrenching from your hands torque steer.
That said.. it was very very fast.. had fun blowing off a kid in a Turbo Audi from a rolling start at a toll booth. Same power as the 1.8t, but less weight and frictional losses.
You will also quicly learn to hate the subframe on these cars. It needs to come out for any kind of work to the engine.
