A Greek Navy ship that was formerly part of the British Navy named HMS Berkeley, cut in half by a commercial container ship this morning..

The ship that formerly used that name (Also in the British Navy) was bombed and destroyed during world war II. I feel like there's a lesson to be learned here about shipping naming per GRM standards

my google fu sucks. link to news story?
Someone in my extended family who served in the North Atlantic in WW2 and was later a Captain in the Canadian Naval Reserve had a plaque on his wall at home that read, "A collision at sea can ruin your entire day."
Words to live by.

I'm reminded of the Waratah. There were a total of 5 ships to use that name. The first sank off the island of Ushant in the English Channel in 1848, another lost on a voyage to Sydney in 1887, a third lost south of Sydney, a fourth sank near Carpentaria in 1897 and the last went missing with no trace on only her second voyage. The last Waratah also suffered a fire on her first trip and complaints by crew of a fundamentally flawed design during her sea trials and both trips
Makes you wonder why they kept naming spaceships Enterprise after all the E36 M3 that they went through in Star Trek.
