If you can believe it, we have been asked to post these opportunities on social media sites.
So if you want to be part of autonomous vehicle technology development, feel free to go to careers.ford.com and see if there's a position you would like to try.
Most of the jobs are in SE MI, but there are a handful of positions in Palo Alto, CA.
Your opportunity to be part of the system.
There are some interesting openings on that list. Specialist, Wood Fabrication. Nascar aerodynamics engineer. Ford Performance Chassis Design and Release Engineer - that one sounds fun.
A friend just graduated from enginerd school and picked up a job at Ford. He's involved in making sure the cars can be serviced - I forget the title. So in 5 years, when you're trying to get at the oil filter on your Fracas and you have to remove the transmission first, please yell "damn you Aaron!"
Seriously, though - I was glad to see him get the gig and I think Ford's lucky to have him. Also, don't let him behind the wheel unless you want him to kick your ass. BTDT.
In reply to Keith Tanner:
One of the 300 or so openings is for a development engineer in my section. We actually have two openings.
Given my stance on the Driverless-Carriage movement, any involvement on my part would simply provide me an opportunity to corrupt the devil from the inside-out.
But, I can see that Eric is doing his duty, and that, aside from the actual goal of the project, this is probably a cool opportunity for someone, not an opportunity for me to troll, so, I suppose I give it a pass.
Jokes aside, if I were young and single, I would head out to the mitten to get in on the ground floor. I would probably like working for one of the big 3.
This might be the last opportunity for some noble individual to infiltrate the enemy and bring this nonsense to an end!
Thought about pursuing a degree in robotics instead of IT, thought it was too niche at the time, real smart of me...
In reply to 4cylndrfury:
Fwiw, I'm not in autonomous vehicles. I'm powertrain controls/calibration. If that helps.
If I'm an autonomous vehicle tester can I drink on the job?
Forwarded link to my brother. He was job hunting recently, not sure if he still is.
He has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, but has been working in IT with Bowles Fluidics for several years since he graduated.

It's what most tech companies do... Let their people evangelize their awesomeness.
Now.. As Tech companies become gobbled up by non tech companies.. the next disruption in the tech indsutry will be real companies steamrolling the hopes and dreams of the tech guys.
I didn't realize clay models were still done. As a kid I thought that would be a fun job. I wonder if 30 years of building scale model qualifies me.
All jokes aside I can assure anyone interested that Ford are very very serious about AV's. If any of you meet the skill sets please apply. I can say from my honest personal experience that I think Ford is an excellent place to work and I"m very happy here. For any out of area as well, SE Michigan really is a great place to live.
Come join us, we have cookies.
And quite seriously, I am a big proponent of autonomous vehicle technology. Most drivers suck. Let me have fun on the track and the let the robots do the drudgery of commuting. So long as we can turn them off when they become sentient and turn into murderbots.
Wait, we have cookies? Why was I not told!

Are there folks that do mapping at Ford?
Look through that list, you'll be amazed at what's in there. There's even a listing for something that sounds a little tiny bit creepy: Ford Identity Resolution Manager
Can I be the guy that test drives cars, and tells the ABS people to turn it down?

What kind of mapping? Engine mapping or terrain mapping?
Yes on the former, no idea on the latter.

If you qualify, sure. But there are not many of those guys.
Do they need someone to put out things that catch fire?
In reply to Woody:
Have to call Dearborn Fire Department about that position.
Do you happen to know how strict they are regarding the degree requirements for really experienced software engineers?
:(
Nothing in 490 openings for a Technical Writer.
