Single digits and below . For a long period.

Back in the old days, one trick was to place a 100w lead light under the hood over night. Surprising how well it worked.
I was pleasantly surprised that the the Braille 11.5 pounder fired up the Escort at 18*F this morning.
Single digits with negative windchills predicted here til jan 9th. The ranger started this morning but even with the new battery and starter it wasnt real happy. Been a few years since weve had this kind of cold!
Truck cranked kinda slow this morning. Been at least a couple weeks since it's been started. Oil pressure gauge stayed pegged over 60 psi until she warmed up. I've got some other stuff in the detached garage that probably needs to be started. Isn't it Spring yet?
-4 this morning, predicted to be that way for awhile. So far the Firebird starts right up. Same can't be said for the owner...
This is why I hate southern Kentucky winter. The rest of the country gets either tolerable temps or snow. We just get 10-30 degree temps and lots of grey. I should at least be able to do snow donuts if I'm going to put up with 16 degree mornings.
Up here in the NE this is getting cold for sure. If anyone has elderly neighbors check in on them. This is the kind of cold that looking after others is just the right thing to do.

Yes, I have used that. Try finding a 100W light bulb these days!!
BTW the Golf wouldn't go. My fault - when I changed the oil pan, I used a 10W30 conventional oil, as I had planned to do a short cycle in case any dirt got inside when we towed it home. I didn't get it changed soon enough! Boosted it with the rally car, got it warmed up and changed over to a 5W30 synthetic.
It's heading back down to -32C with windchills into the -40C range overnight. Don't have to convert that because -40 is the same in C and F!!!
We made it down to 36F last night. Early next week we are supposed to hit a low of 20. That's cold enough for me. We rarely get below 20 and I only remember a couple of times we got into single digits. Anything below 20 they close schools because many of the buses won't start.
-9F here this morning. I'll go out a little later and see if the lawn mower sized battery in the Miata is up to the task.
-2 before windchill this morning. The ranger wasnt real happy on cold start. Thankfully the new battery managed too spin it to life! Were not expected to be over freezing again until january 9th.
Apparently we've set a record for cold this day in Ontario.
Reminds me of the winter of 02/03. That was the when I built the 03 Challenge car. We had so many -25C days in a row that year I actually put heat in my shop. I could get 10 degrees out of it. So I was working in -15C temperatures and pretty happy about it.
