Hang on, that's uncontrolled air space I take it?  I assume non of you was doing anything illegal.  What did the police say, and what was your response?

There are still clearance requirements even in class G airspace (exceptions for landing and takeoff of course).  Theoretically if you flew within 500 ft to a hiker.... but it's unlikely, unless it was blatant that the FAA would care much (especially a glider).  Not sure a park ranger has much authority over federal airspace anyway!

Yeah, we're not supposed to fly closer than 500 ft. to cloud base but on a 90* day sitting in a plastic greenhouse; sometimes you just get the canopy misty and open the window.  Take the big hat off, get a drink of water and breathe in.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd take second gen over a third gen all day every day.

That is the good looking second-gen, not the ugly second-gen.

Cars seem to be the opposite of airplanes: the first year is the best.  '70(.5) Camaro looked good and could be had with the LT1, which was a stroked DZ302 after the SCCA relaxed the homologation rules.  The '81 Camaro was built on worn out tooling so the chassis were sloppy and the fits were poor, the Endura bumpers looked like crap, and they were available with the amazing 229 six...
