So I just put my Land Cruiser back up for sale here since I had it up on another local forum and got ghosted by the buyer who had agreed on a price and place to meet and day.  Made sure the notary would be open and texted them that info the day before and then called and left a message with the buyer the day of.

Be an adult and tell people you aren't interested in the vehicle anymore. Quit wasting my time.

I hate selling cars so much.

Apparently it's a buyers market and everything sells immediately for too much money. Except when I'm trying to sell something.

Selling parts is the same way. I have a drop-in bed liner and step bars from my truck that I have been trying to get out of my garage for about 2 months now. I don't want very much for either of them put people want everything for free and then want it delivered. Uh, no. If you want it so bad, get your ass over here and pick it up.

I'm about to go all Dusterbd13 on the bed liner.

I was pleasantly surprised selling my NC, I got lucky.

Guy posted on the local autoX forum he wanted a Miata. I told him the info. He came and test drove it, sold his C5 Z06, came and picked me up the next week, went to the bank, had the title notarized, deposited the cash, dropped me back off at my house.

I don't think I've ever had a transaction go so smoothly.

I've been lucky with selling cars and parts lately. Sold the wagon via eBay to a dude in Ohio--and we're here in Florida. He showed up right on schedule, handed over a stack of crisp hundreds, and left. Haven't heard from him since.

I've sold or given away plenty of parts lately, too. Within an hour of posting an ad on FB Marketplace, I had two dudes interested in my NIB turn signal stalk for a 240SX. Maybe I should have asked more for it. Left a care package of 240SX odds and ends for a dude on the front porch, and he grabbed it as promised.

But I've been on the other end, too. Someone I have known for years--like, since he was a kid--offered a car for sale. I'm interested, I told him, and the price seemed fair. After lots of photos and chatter, time to check it out.

When can I see it?

Saturday morning, he said.

Perfect. Let me get the address.

Late Friday night, I get a text from the seller: I told a buddy that I was going to show the car in the morning, and since he really wanted it, I just sold it to him.

Womp, womp.

I just put my Kawasaki on Cycle Trader. Ten minutes after the ad goes up I get an e-mail asking if it is STILL for sale.

You can't make this stuff up.

I'd talked to a guy for months about his corrado that he'd posted for sale.  Finally spring is getting here and I ask him to finalize the deal.  That's when he says he's not sure he wants to sell it, his cousin might want it, etc, etc.  Really dude?  After 2+ months of messages?

I don't know if I have just become more jaded or if more than a decade of Pawn Stars and similar TV "negotiating" has corrupted the collective unconscious and people are actually worse, but I used to love wheeling and dealing and now I just hate it.

It feels like 3 out of every 5 buyers will either show up to kick tires for an hour and then offer 1/3 of your ask (acting insulted when you won't take it) or just no-show altogether.

Don't even get me started on the people that will waste your time on Facebook.

Legit question.

I listed a riding mower a couple years ago and it was sold within 2 minutes of listing it. Sent the money electronically, showed up 15 minutes later to pick up. Had a similar experience with an ATV last year.

My dad sold recently sold his old drill press. The dude didn't even turn it on before picking it up. My dad was like, Do you want to make sure it first works?

I'm going to attempt to sell a 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe soon. The price will be the price I list it as unless you come and look at it. Simple as that. I will lower it, probably,  after we talk. If you berkeley with me, by phone, e-mail, text, or even face to face, the price will go up.

Maybe I sell my stuff too cheap, but it's been easy recently. My Mazda 5 went for full asking price to the first person to come look at it, no negotiation other than "how would you like me to pay you and when can I pick it up?". It was not an especially nice car either.

That or I've just been lucky.

At least wait to lowball me in person. Listed for 5500, "would you take 3k cash?" Yes and a other two grand, also in cash. Sold to a friend for way less , bc karma or pay it forward or whatever.

I had this bike up for sale last year and not one single person showed to look at it after two months. Nobody really wants them. I will probably end up dumping it in a wrecking yard somewhere.

"$3k is a nice down payment, and I will hold the car for you until the bank opens so you can get the rest."

Yup. Cheap enough and enough shiny happy people coming to piss me off and ill torch the motherberkeleyer right in the driveway.

Last few cars ive sold, however,  have been to guys like me. One to brap, one to another car guy, one to justjim. A dakota (kinda) to Chandler. Nice, easy. And simple to complete. I think selling stuff here is going to spoil me.

Not always an option if say, the car doesn't fit your needs anymore or, god forbid, you just don't like it anymore.

If I had kept my NC until it went to the junkyard..........as little as it's driven and being garage kept, it would have probably outlasted me and I'm only 39.

Trying to sell or buy stuff has become a real E36 M3 show. Everything is selling ridiculously high right now... Unless I want to sell something!

I do not have the money to make a fair offer on the Kawi., but am bikeless right now. Don't get so disgusted as to scrap it, though!

In reply to 03Panther :

I would honestly rather scrap it than sell it to a lowballer or flipper for $500. It cost me almost that much to get it ready to sell. Getting it inspected and licensed again was almost $100 and most people won’t even look at it without a current sticker.

I understand and agree wholeheartedly!!! I would as well

if I had enough money to make a decent offer, the fact of the excellent condition would matter more to me than that minor stuff. But buyers today can be a pain.

I've had the old V6 rear bumper off my Mustang on FB Marketplace for probably a year for free. It's just hanging in my garage rafters. I'd actually forgotten about the ad when some guy messaged me saying it was exactly what he needed. "I'll be there after work on Saturday". I text him Friday and ask if he's still coming because he never got my address. "Yes, will be there after work." So I get a ladder, move a car, get it down, etc.

Nope. Never shows. No text or anything. For a free part.

I hate people.
