I keep trying this. The keys are the most uncomfortable thing in my pockets. I just can't handle the jingle jangle as I walk.
I wear close to 15 keys at work... I hated the jingle until I bought a Keysmart ring for them.. now I can walk in silence

Pffft. Amateur , I have 22 keys on two rings. Everyone at work can hear me coming. They greet me with "well hello Keymaster".

that does not include my "card key". I think if more people in the casino industry knew how many places entertainment can get into (if it's not a guest room, money/chip area, or the offices we can get in) they would be surprised and alarmed. We can even get up onto the roof, 45 floors above Atlantic City.

And yes, I hate making noise when I walk. Jingling keys drove me insane. As for cargo pants.. I wear black ones at work and often every pocket has something in it. The one guy at work who insists on wearing black jeans is ALWAYS breaking his keycard because he leaves it in the backpocket

How are we defining cargo shorts?

Shorts that have more than 2 back and 2 front pockets.

If so, I don't intentionally buy cargo shorts, they are just most prevalent.

The whole-"cargo pants are the least cool garment ever" sounds like a contrived story by the fashion industry to get a segment that cares very little about being fashionable to buy into the nonsense and spend more money. No thanks.

Yesterday while working on the cars in the yard. It was my cut off desert fatigues (home brew cargo shorts) that are 26 years old and an "event staff" t-shirt I got while working the Paralympic Games in Atlanta. Fashion is overrated, comfort and utility is key.

I'm 32 and I've been wearing cargo shorts since high school. And will continue to do so. My work uniform is rip stop bdu pants so I feel weird even when I wear jeans. I like not having to sit on my wallet.

As a man who is currently wearing a pair of cargo shorts, I don't give a crap what "fashion" experts think anymore. When my wife wants me to wear something else, she'll buy it for me. I haven't bought my own clothes in 10 years. She buys it, I wear it. She must like the way I look because we have three kids as proof.

Constantly wearing a pair.

Have three pairs from the eddy Bauer travel line that have zippers on a pocket etc, for a bit extra safety of items depending on activity.

I like generally ones that do not have pleated pockets.

Says no talent hacks in nut hugging skinny jeans. No thanks. I'll carry my world in my pockets.

We need a philosophy of use for cargo shorts to make this complete.

I think "Cargo Shorts" should be a phrase in the curse word filter. (Not sure if it would be better replacing something or being replaced by something) Maybe a$$ -> Cargo Shorts?

Do these cargo shorts make by cargo shorts look big?

The real question is if the GRM love for cargo shorts surpasses our love for hot linking pictures.

I wonder if that's a cross between a tent and pants. Or maybe a tent in your pants?

This may be a good opportunity to see how our views on cargo shorts have evolved.

Great for camping, sometimes for travel. If you have to be seen in public with them though, almost always a hard pass. Similar to crocs--a great example of function over form/fashion,  but there is often a minimum to the form/fashion that cargo shorts typically don't meet.

Two years later after I posted last, they are still useful, so I still wear them. I spent a day covering an event over the weekend, and my trusty camo cargos held an extra camera lens, all my credentials, my keys, earplugs, and more all day long. You can't beat that.

That said, I've discovered other, more comfortable shorts recently that are NOT of the cargo variety that I like wearing everyday:

Lee Performance Xtreme Comfort shorts. Holy hell are they comfortable!

Still don't care, but now that I have two kids I wear them with socks and closed toe sandals.

Wear cargo style uniform pants for work, still wear cargo shorts anytime I'm home and it's hot out. The utility beats fashion. As long as my wife still sleeps with me I'll dress how I want!
