Changing email?

I was recently motivated to express my gratitude to a mod for an act of kindness.  In attempting to do so, I discovered that the email attached to my account has been out of service for nearly a millennium.  When by chance I stumbled upon the screen wherein I could change my email, it refused my modifications, stating that "email was already in use" or something like that. 

How do I change my default email if there is more than one associated with my screen name?  Or, how do I delete an old email?

Im not sure that he can send you a PM if his "email or origin" is defunct.

Might be better for him to write the old and new email he wishes to be contacted on here in the body of this thread.  

I have have received his PM, it is associated with another user. Reply sent to his new email so he should get it.

I assume that means he created two accounts and forgot the password or got banned for one of them?
