When I was doing my apprenticeship we did a lot of work for small corner car lots. The kind of places that don't end up with the better cars, and we did a lot of work on these. They are, IMO, some of the worst cars ever built.

Is there going to be a class where you have to enter an actual Mercury Cougar?

If not there should be.  Bonus points for the '74-76 Megalocougar.

Bingo!

Megalocougar

I'll bet there's three feet of empty space behind the point of that front bumper.

That's the smaller one.  '74-76 was about a foot longer in the wheelbase.

Edit:  THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS WRONG.  I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong, and I will explain why I had the wrong thoughts I did.

The '72-76 Thunderbird was built on a stretched Torino chassis.  The '77-79 Thunderbird was downsized to use the Torino chassis, so '77-79 Cougars and Thunderbirds are the same.  I *thought* that the '74-76 Cougar was based on the T-bird/Mark IV.  I was wrong, it was based on the Torino/LTD.

I had a '72 T-bird and a friend had a '79 T-bird and they were remarkably similar ahead of the firewall and in the trunk area, but my car had a ton more interior room.  In his car, the driver's seat basically touched the rear seat.  Mine could actually hold five adults.  But his shorter wheelbase and ~500-800lb lighter chassis handled better.  But mine was still faster because 429-4V and not 135hp smog-era 302-2v.

STFU and make your name longer. This isn't the mansplaining mistakes thread.

In other news, I found the limit to how long a screenname can be.  Name should be "Knurled Malcolm Peter Brian Telescope Adrian Blackpool Rock Stoatgobbler John Raw Vegetable Brrroooo Norman Michael (bell) (whistle) Edward (horn) (train noises) Thomas Moo... 'We'll keep a welcome in the' (gunshot) William (silly noise) 'Raindrops keep falling on my'  (weird noise) 'Don't sleep in the subway'  (cuckoo) Naaoooo... Smith"

You sir or madam as the case may be, are doing it perfectly.

(For the longest time I wanted a car that relied on heavy application of turbo to make power, with the name "Boostie McGee" rolling around in my head.   Now I realize this may sound derivative, so why not go for broke and say Boosty McBoostface?)

Duster, if every parent was as good as you, the world would be a much better place.

I haven't forgotten her concerns about the kids losing their toys in Harvey. As I said then, good parents result in good kids!smiley yes

I try to relate to my grandkids and my students that you reap what you sew and it's easier and more rewarding to be good to others than the other way around!

I can find the last generation Cougar which was just a rebodied Escort ZX2 all day long, but that kind of goes against the spirit of finding a Cougar. It's like talking to your aunt at the bar. While technically right, it's not going to impress your friends.

It's not a rebodied ZX2, it's a rebodied Contour/Mondeo(/X-type)

Sort of like how the Puma was a rebodied Fiesta.  (Or was it the Ka?)
